Friends, personal belongings, still have business things going on, go to sunny places for 2 weeks at a time, cost, even though it's paradise where I go, it is still not home.
Cdn dollar at par

Maybe it's simpler than that. They probably got rich by not spending their money and that includes holidays.

You must be in the wrong Pacific Northwest. Vancouver was great yesterday.

I suppose rich people may have family ties; a business here; preference to be around a skiing resort; tax reasons to stay in Canada (and prefer West Coast to other places); or just slow to move. Not everybody likes travelling either, maybe they've seen it all.

If i were rich i'd be living in Las Vegas or San Diego. Certainly not in this hellhole known as Vancouver.

With regards to "winter" you people have it pretty easy on the Left Coast....Calgary got smacked with 14 Centimeters of snow on the weekend combined with -15 Celcius for temperature...throw in the wind chill and it was -29 and worse.Cold to say the least. All told between Friday night and Monday morning there were 740 car accidents and the Deerfoot was completely shut down for 6+ hours on Saturday.

I do get your point though...truth be told if Vancouver or Seattle gets hit with say 2 INCHES of snow that will melt within 2 days it is a total disaster.

If I were "shit rich" I would not live in Canada at all.....Thailand/Costa Rica would be my choice and the only "snowflake" I would encounter would be a whiney Millenial....who I would of course say fuck off to LOL.

BC is safe for the most part.....and you don't have to arm yourself to walk down the street, even in a " bad " neighbourhood.
To anyone from Asia, or Europe, it's not crowded, and we don't have random terror activity....Our food and lifestyle is on par or even above European standards....and it has been said the most beautiful women in the world are here.
What's not to like?

Bad weather only bothers you if you are stuck in Vancouver.
Rich people can leave anytime they need a break.

why would I want to spend that much money to go elsewhere, when I haven't even seen my own country? It makes absolutely no sense to "work my ass off for a holiday" when I can appreciate my own home

Born and raised in northwestern Ontario, spent 6 years in Winnipeg during my early 20’s...Vancouver is the tropics for me!

I’m not rich, but honestly I have never really have had the urge to leave this city since I moved here.
Definitely agree with you having done time in a small town west of Thunder Bay. I haven't put on winter coat since I arrived 8 years ago.

I am a 135 lbs, the wind goes thru me rather quickly. I do notice when I go out fat men get looked at over skinny guys. You fat guys are lucky, blubber keeps you warm and get chicks.

I stay in BC for the summer cuz there’s no where I’d rather be than Beautiful BC from May-Sept.

Once the rains come, all the hookers and BC bud couldn’t keep me from snowbirding a few times in the winter. Only people I am jealous of are my neighbourly Canucks that got the Arizona diggs sorted for our 5 mo’s of winter. Fame, Fortune, and Fornication don’t fill my soul like Fun in the Sun with my peops.

Next financial crisis, I am buying up the sun belt. Babes welcome to join me.

Well the topic is why live here in the winter. Where would you want to visit in canada in the winter? Anywhere east of here will be -20C or colder. Not a lot of tourist activity to catch in that weather. I wouldn't leave my hotel unless I was skiing.

It's only -8 here right now.....but the wind just kicked up, so never mind .

An old Cowboy once said to me..." Son, we may complain about the cold, the snow, or the ice, but it is just that thing which keeps the population from breathing down your neck.....I like taking a piss anyplace I please"

A lot of the arts go into full swing in the winter. I like to snowshoe and icefish, always wanted to build an igloo :loco: . . . .skiing is fun. Snow wheeling is also fun. Some SPs have "winter rates" and who doesn't love a warm fire and think snow looks pretty... I would also go for a winter holiday East of here as well because I'm a nut  (most of the hot springs are east of me)
