Guns in Australia
Here's a thought to warm your hearts........

Hi Yanks and Canadians - I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under. It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program
costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent, Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)! In
the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the
criminals did not! and criminals still possess their guns!) While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly.

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in
successfully ridding Australian society of guns." You won't see this on the American /Canadian evening news or hear your government or members of the State Assembly and Ottawa parliament disseminating this information.

The Australian experience proves it. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only
the law-abiding citizens. Take note Americans and Canadians before it's too late!

DON'T BE A MEMBER OF THE SILENT MAJORITY. BE OF THE VOCAL MINORITY WHO WON'T LET THIS HAPPEN IN THE U.S.A AND CANADA !!!!!

The overwhelming majority of handgun crimes are committed by people who don't legally own those weapons

OK so you found some stats to back you up regarding ineffectiveness of banning handguns, and perhaps those stats would actually reflect the situation were it attempted. Why the big outcry? Who cares if you can keep your gun or not? Are you going to die just because you're not allowed to have your rifle (even if for legitimate reasons) so you can go shoot some fucking animal? You weren't actually considering that a gun was going to be your deterrent against illegal gun use upon you were you? Cuz you know that guns as a defensive weapon against guns is absolutely no guarantee you're not going to die when some crazy fucker decides he's going to shoot you. Legal gun ownership for defensive purposes against illegal guns will just escalate illegal gun possession by those intent on using force to impose their will. If I was a criminal and I knew the general population had plenty of guns, the first thing I'd do is always pack a loaded piece (and a high caliber automatic weapon at that) and be ready to use it the next time I do a B&E.... and I'd shoot as many of your family as possible if I have to go down in a gun fight against you.

Instead of getting all upset that your right to own a gun is going to be taken away, why isn't your focus on actually reducing gun crime? Why, in the same breath as your opposition to the gun ban, don't you put equal emotion into demanding harsh automatic prison time for anyone illegally possessing a gun or for that matter using it in a crime?

The onus is not upon me to explain stats you put forth that support your position, that's your job. Stats don't fully explain what is happening, and form weak arguments on their own. Reason is better suited to form a sustainable position. What reasons are provided by the anti-gun-ban people to support their argument other than to pull more weakly correllated stats?

I'd care if i lost my privilage to shoot because our goverments stupid ass solution to their piss poor management of gun violence was to take away my joy of shooting.

George you are right. We, as gun owners need to demand more jail time for those criminals who are committing these shootings. Maybe there needs to be stricter rules for gun owners, but taking away my right as a competitive shooter is not one of them.

VOTING AGAINST THE LIBERALS IN THE UPCOMING ELECTION IS A START.

Our goverment is run by a bunch of Liberal dickheads. Banning guns is one thing, but with all their other blunders. Thanks for coming out Paul. You lose.
