To each his own. One reason that I don't much like text for initial contact is that I'm kinda clumsy at entering phone numbers on phone touchscreens. It's really easy for me to put in the wrong number. Sending a text to some random wrong number, asking, say, if the recipient of the message does hand-jobs in the nude, could be troublesome. With a voice call, I can start off with "Hi, am I speaking with (name in ad)?". I can keep going with a couple of neutral questions until I'm sure I have the right person. With a text, once I hit send, it's gone.
