I agree, maybe summerbreeze is referring to more asians/south asians than whites?
maybe. but wouldn't that be a very narrow point of view?
even Toronto or Montreal is more diverse than Vancouver.
I've been to both cities and it seem more diverse to me.

I'll throw my hat into the ring and add:

Fassil Ethiopian Restaurant - The place doesn't look like much but the food itself makes up for it.

Rio Brazilian Steakhouse - Very casual place. Best enjoyed with chill company.

Yuko Maki - Great sushi.

Salmon House on the Hill - Place is expensive but great food. I may be bias with this choice as it has sentimental value for me.

Dark Table - If you're feeling adventurous and want to try something different check them or their site out. Very unique eating experience.

Really? Bummer. Food is still good, if you like nibbles.
Yah. They gave the person I was with a bigger beer than me. I was all, why you give the girl the bigger beer when I'm bigger. :(

Lunch is way cheaper than dinner there, but I think they only serve chicken hearts at dinner.

It was something I read a number of years ago. Must admit I would have gone with NY or London.

Probably a dozen different ways to estimate this so would not take any claims too seriously.

Main point was not to miss the culinary diversity the area has to offer especially the Asian influence.

Will let others arm wrestle for the diverse city title.

Salmon House - always great food, great view and the past visit we had the most pathetic service. So bad that I reported the server to their management.

One in our party could eat shell fish but not fish because of severe allergies. This was plainly communicated up front.

Appetizers arrived and he got it all wrong. Instead of making it right, he said oh they are all great dishes, just eat those and walked away.

I followed him with the fish dish to the server's area and asked him what he didn't understand about the allergy that was communicated? The guy was dumb as a post and I had to get the manager to fix things.

That was a zero tip night.

OK, I'll bite. What is bukkake udon?
打っ掛け(ぶっかけ)Bukkake Definition

1. Splashing on; splashing at;
2. Dish made by pouring broth over something (esp. bukkakesoba
bukkakesoba)

So cold udon noodles splashed with broth.

I guess it'd be just as weird as searching for creampie in English...

Going to a fish house with a severe allergy to fish is akin to being a raw foods vegan stuck in a steak house. Better planning next time by the people organizing the event/ dinner.

We've changed plans and restaurants on very short notice because of a person's allergic possibilities.

Malika many of the restaurant's listed have menu's and websites on line. I'd contact the ones that you are wanting to go to and make certain their procedures are in place and if shellfish is on their menu how people with allergies are handled. (Are the food prep areas different etc..)

I take it you have never been there. Many non fish dishes are available and the allergy is to fish not shell fish. Any restaurant can take care to ensure there is no cross contamination so people can eat at these restaurants without fear.

For what it's worth, the person with the allergy chose the Restaurant having eaten there many times.

Hi Malika

I was referring to a colleague with the opposite allergy to yours.

I recommend you visit "The Lift" which is downtown near Stanley park facing the Royal Van Yacht Club.

Fabulous menu, view and the outdoor patio is wonderful. Many food choices are available too.

Been there many times. Seen their menu, many times. They are the Salmon house on the hill in West Van. Like the Fish house in Stanley Park, The Blue Water Cafe + Raw Bar, The Cannery (which closed down in 2010) they are all Fish specialty restaurants. Yes they do have other things on the menu, but why take a person with a known fish allergy to a fish house. That would be like taking a person with a shellfish allergy to an oyster bar because they've also got some other great menu choices...
Reading is fundamental in a TWO way conversation BJ. Read my posts before a retort please.

The host was the person with the allergy who had eaten there many times.

I already stated it but once again, any restaurant of this calibre can take care of cross contamination if notified up front.

It was the server who was not the brightest bulb in the box, not the kitchen staff.
