I believe men are still the biggest consumers of pornography, and certainly the largest buyers of sex services, but does anyone have a logical explanation why female sex performers (ie "porn actresses) seem to be more socially accepted, even admired, by people in mainstream society (ie - not here), than prostitutes?

Because in a way they are actresses. They also develop. Persona with other male porn actors so its not really them having sex. Its all acting for the camera, while providers and clients having sex is for no one else. Its not a show put on for other people, its very personal. Also female porn stars are also stigamtized too. There was that woman who was beaten and attacked by her mma fighter ex boyfriend. The vitriol in the comments were very apparent after that.

Because the stigma of enjoying porn is less than that of supporting (and implicitly being involved in) the sex for money thing? More lucrative career (before the internet era), even now porn star + SP can earn more than just an SP? Less sexual partners (and those are usually more attractive)? Ability to show off the goods, both looks and performance? "Actress"/fame angle does not play a role for me, but surely for many it does.

The porn industry has its dark side, too. I remember a Youtube video with a very long list of porn actors/actresses who died young (suicide, substance abuse, etc.) - certainly a higher percentage than the general population. I doubt they always feel accepted.

Ever pondered the distinction of why it's essentially fine (in many legal jurisdictions) to pay a woman, have sex with her and film it, but it's illegal to do the same without filming it :)

Seems like a good loophole, film your session with a SP under the guise that you are filming porn.

I would think the biggest distinction that the fairer gender has is that with "actresses" you are getting yourself off, with SPs they are taking care of business for you. I haven't heard too many times that a guy is cheating when he stimulates himself.
