As I said Canada was never under threat as a country even with WW2.And for both Canadians VOLUNTEERED as there was no draft/conscription.In WW1 Britain was not under threat of invasion either,they came in defence of their ally France along with Russia on the other end.My grandfather was one the fortunate ones to survive Dunkirk.

Was visiting with a older friend years ago and talking about WWII. He lost his oldest brother in the war. When Canada entered into WWII in the late 30's to come to the defense of Great Britain. Locally in BC the prisons were cleaned out and the prisoners were sent overseas. My friends brother went to prison for stealing a loaf of bread and jar of jam to feed the family and was killed in action overseas. I wasn't there obviously but that was his story that he told.
