I found this one disturbing bit on connect2edmonton where a couple of posters have suggested taking pics or vids of pooners coming and going through the rear entrance:

I'd love to see Phoenix and Lux and to get re-acquainted with Vienna. But I hope I won't have to disguise myself in doing so because of some morally-driven ignorance.

Holy bejeegez......I just finished reading the thread that "Wolverine" posted in the second link above. I tried so hard to resist writing a response, but I couldn't. Either I managed to convince at least some of them of an alternate viewpoint or I dug myself into another ongoing and meaningless Topper- style debate. In any event, I feel much better now.

Still, it is heartening to see that most of the posters on that board are intelligent enough to defend Platinum Club and the MP industry. It seems to be a small number of moral crusaders who are railing against them.

The funny thing is, Vienna and the rest of the MPs are likely getting a lot of publicity and business out of this, something that the NIMBY people did not intend. The exposure is not just from CBC though, connect2edmonton is a high-profile board in this town (just look at the Ask section). Until about 10 years ago, I had no idea MPs existed until someone from city council mentioned them and what really goes on in them. Thanks to that startling revelation, I stopped cruising for SWs and never looked back!

I have wondered too if all the exposure out there is helping the industry "maybe". There are tons of single guys out there in this city and I think this might help more then it hurts. Sure, they might still be hesitant to make their first trek into a studio or with an Escort.

Worst negative is the still not great economy but maybe 2010 will be a good year for MP's.


Shit, 5 years ago when I started this hobby I never thought I could have "company" with hot women who would not give me a second look in the real world. and I am not that hard to look at, just not a GQ type guy.

If Edmontonhohoho hadn't said anything I was going to register and put some light onto the whole premise that most 98% of mp's are run and owned by woman, not drug dealers, gangs and the like. Also adding, zoning and the city bylaw, counsellors have given permission to all the mp's through out the city to continue to operate.

The entire thread is solely focused on Platinum Club and NOT Sapphire which has in fact been there for 20 + years. Their across the street from each other, why not attack both ?

There are motions within the bylaw laws that are going to be changing over the next year to change the term 'massage parlour' to 'rub and tug' similar to Vancouver terms. But changing the term used does not change what is going on in them nor does it change the zoning issues that these residents have.

If the building is zoned CB1, no one is notified of said establishment of opening, however if it's zoned differently in order to change zoning everyone is notified, businesses, and residents within a 10 meter radius.

If there was a different type of business in the location prior to the change, an application to change, 'purse of use' is made and notification of change is made to everyone; same process as above.

The city, which I believe includes all; Police, MLA's, Planning and Development, etc. have NO desire to have hookers on the street. No one in these departments are going to change anything unless they can rid prostitution from civilization completely. Like that is going to happen !!
