I"ve wanted to see a hard lockdown for more than a year. Even now Horgan is doing too little too late. He isn't asking anyone to make much of a sacrifice. All he's asking is to stay local. He isn't saying we have to stay locked in our homes. We're going to have to give up a lot more than we are now, if we want to beat this pandemic.
Right now we have a race between the rate the virus mutates and the rate we can vaccinate. So far the mutations are winning. The only way to stop the mutations is to stop infecting each other. As it is now, even with the new restrictions, by the time we all get vaccinated, we'll have immunity to last year's virus, not this year's.
We think of Australians as a more unruly bunch than we are, but Australia has done short, hard lockdowns with rigid travel restrictions, the people have put up with that, and so far they've managed to restrict the spread and mutation of the virus.
