Looking to get a new pair of glasses (frame and transition lenses). Last pair of glasses (Oakley) I got were from Lenscrafters and to be honest I was not too impressed with them; unlike my IRIS Optical glasses (Adidas) the ones from Lenscrafters are quite uncomfortable at times. Prescription was the same but I just don't feel the sizing and the adjustments made by Lenscrafters was as good as IRIS Optical. So long story short I have decided to go back to IRIS Optical but they are the priciest place in town but from a product and service perspective I find them to be very good.

In addition to the glasses, I am going to also need an eye examination as the last one I had was 5 years ago. It seems the price of an eye exam at IRIS Optical is at a minimum $120. The glasses I am looking at are in the $800 range with all the taxes and everything else factored in.

Since I want transition lenses, this purchases is not going to be cheap and I don't want to make another mistake again like I did with Lenscrafters. You couldn't imagine how uncomfortable those glasses I got from Lenscrafters are.

Anyway, any recommendations out there for quality eye service and products at reasonable prices?

Note: if I have to pay a lot, I will. My sight and my health and my comfort are more important than saving a few dollars.

The Superstore Optical store is awesome. Usually, if you pay less you get cheap quality, but I got my glasses over 2 years ago and have had no problems, I get my contacts there and they're about half the price of other places. Plus the staff is very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. And I've been to a few locations, including in a different province and they're all great. It's rare you can find the best quality for the cheapest price but Superstore is different, I'd definitely check them out if I were you.

it depends. if you have insurance, then go to the ones that your insurance company lists. btw, transitions lenses are not claimable. so let your salesman know and tell him to state it's just regular lenses.

So if you get prescription lenses that also happen to be transition, then they are not claimable? Sunglasses are not claimable, which I can understand. Anyway, I'll definitely have to check that out. Thanks for the heads up.

Depends upon your plan. I have had prescription sun glasses and transition lenses covered. Price of transitions has come way down too and IIRC I paid $75 for the pair of lenses four months ago.
