Bon's off Broadway, @ Nanaimo & Broadway. Nothing fancy, but decent for the money. An interesting crowd, plus some hot waitresses for you horn dogs.

Pho Tau Bay 148 @ 108 in Surrey. Big bowl of pho for $7! Decor isn't the greatest, but service is fast and it's packed with locals.

not necessarily cheap but great value

Mitras Canteen on Main/14th for mom's kitchen middle eastern (falafel & veg platter for us non-meat-eaters): http://www.dinehere.ca/restaurant.asp?r=2890

So.cial at Le Magasin in Gastown. Notwithstanding the lame name & restaurant, the offshoot deli across the hall serves up an insane muffaletta with home made potato chips. Guaranteed leftovers if you order a whole one: http://www.dinehere.ca/restaurant.asp?r=2546

Duffin's Donuts tortas, 41st & Knight. Sadly the 33rd/Main location is boarded up. I used to do an occasional donut run to this asian hottie staffed donut shop/blue collar truck stop. Sigh. $2.50 or so for a fresh viet/spanish sub: http://www.dinehere.ca/restaurant.asp?r=1854

The VCC campus downtown is a nice place to get some gourment eats, because the students studying to be chefs serve up the entrees there and you can get some good meals for nice prices.

The Marpole Community Centre has affordable meals on some days (breakfast on Friday for $2). I live close by, but haven't gone over to check out the repast, but if Very Veronica was there I'd be sure to show up.

If you like your veggies, go to any of the Sikh Gurdwaras when they have something going on. Free food for everybody. Also some of them do a daily meal for whoever wants/needs it. Have to check on times though.

There is no way you can slap together fries and a burger faster then mcdonalds does.
Lets say your on your way home from work, no doubt there is a mcdonalds on your way home, so you just spend 2-4 minutes in the drive threw and continue on your way home, get home and eat. How can you possibly get home, cook some beef and bake or fry french fries, then clean up the pots, pans, kitchen, dishes you ate with in less time then 5 minutes?
I call BULL SHIT on you.

Best cheap food is wendys, but donairs are great, though its just meat, lamb maybe? with a yummy sweet sauce and cheese.
Go to Edo japan, such good food, the location in west Edmonton mall is my favorite.

I find Wendy's beef is consistently dry. I used to go there all the time in years gone by when they actually had a decent salad bar. Any one remember that?

For quick cheap junk food, I say Costco is the best.

Cheap eats

Yo, if everybody here likes chinese food, then go to honolu lu cafe. There's one on Kingsway, just past Joyce. And the other on Main, near KingEd. Their lunch specials and night, I think past 9pm, are about 5.95-7.95 with drink of your choice.

agree's with Veronica about Duffin's on 33rd and Main. My buddies and I used to live in the area and would frequent the place, plus the family tried setting up their daughters with us when we went in. The things we would do for free donuts =)

Hawkers on Main near King Edward St has excellent Malaysian food for a reasonable price and portion.

I dont think I have had a good donut here in a very long time. The only good albeit super sweet made in Canada donut seems to Krispy Kreme regular glazed when it's still warm from the oven. Otherwise, only the US seems to know how to make donuts now. I think Nuffy's about 35 years ago was good. I dont know how people can eat Timmy's donuts.
