Re: locking down threads

Just curious how we all feel on the subject...since Fred Zed could care less (see terbs seldom use of the lock down feature) and it is up to the Mods discretion, I thought it was a good idea to find out how we collectively feel about the subject in general.

If I understand correctly, the people who voted for this option want all threads locked down once everyone has had their chance to voice in with their opinion. If thats the case how are the Mods supposed to know when the final words on a topic have been spoken?

Since it's open to interpretation can you please define inflammatory?

Once again, please define what out of control means to you.
Sure Modwest I'd be happy to.

By final word I judge it just long enough for both parties to chime in with their "sides" as it were, and hopefully resolve the issue with finality, which may take a little back and forth until both sides are ready to apologise and/or move on. Time to respond is important, therefore if the person whose reputation is in question is away and takes a month to answer, it should be possible.

By inflammatory I would say serious name calling, not just asshat or something cute but open insults, as well as flame wars where 2 people are going at it and not just one asshat. Those are the most entertaining so I would still keep it open, eventually they get tired of it and move on and we've all had a good show. No harm done.

By out of contol I guess I meant completely off topic, with threats of violence, inciting racial or religious hatred, or hatred towards women but those people would get banned and their posts deleted so it could still get back on track... I admire the way that's been handled lately, leaving the review open but deleting flameage.

Those are the 3 main grey areas I believe, which is why I really wanted to know where the line is drawn for the majority. Giving the Mods the feedback they need to make their job easier, is a bonus. ;)

Out of Town

Especially for the Mods and anyone else interested.

As I have read a few remarks about this whole Av/Wo episode.

What about a possible "separate new section" for these type of
reviews where they turn into a so-called "soap opera" for venting.

For the normal review of positive and possible slight negative given about
a certain SP these would be left in their perspective sections,
maybe a new section called "I have a bone to pick"

Some folks really dislike these "soap opera" things and some really
like to see the flames fly so maybe lets have it in its own section.
Hope you like my idea !!

Just my two cents worth here.

Who cares

The mod is too trigger happy with that 'close thread' button.

I think he enjoys his false sense of power.

HEY, that's uncalled for! Especially since the recent thread in question was re-opened in hours after originally being shut.

It proved my assertation that threads should be left open because in this case it gave Avarice time to apologize for her little faux pas, so it can die out now naturally, after everyone's finished commenting about what a small mistake it was to be seen, and applauds her for being big enough to admit some culpability. Good job! :D

No I think they couldn't help but get bored eventually, but you could be right, maybe only when someone backs down. Either way, it's over, closing it just means resentments florish and spill into personal resentments and grudges IMHO.

It was fine for both sides to say their bit and maybe have a rebuttal. Some people just have to have the last word, though (that's why we have the word "Whatever") and if you have two of them going at it, neither is going to quit first. So someone else has to stop it.

Sometimes neither side will yield. And it continues ad infinitum.
Only if there’s a lot of interest in the thread. If the same 2 people keep going on tit-for-tat, the mods shut it down & tell’em to take it private.

& the fact that the mods tried to lock down the thread for no apparent reason does show how trigger happy they are on it, IMHO; the fac they reopened it showed somebody knew it was wrong
