We finally have the rapid HIV test at the Bute street clinic.
Anyone can do the test when they visit. We just gather some blood from a finger prick (same way that people with diabetes do when testing blood sugar), mix some chemicals together and you have an instant result.
The rapid HIV test has a window period of 3 months but most people would show a positive result about 4-6 weeks after infection.
I think this test will be great for people that find it very stressful waiting a week for their results.
