Well Sam, that depends on what you mean by 'quit'. Didn't you sign a contract? Say for one-year? If 'quit' means you just decided to stop going to the gym, yes of course, they'll continue billing you for the remainder of that year. And, depending on what your contract stated, you may have to make a formal cancellation at the 11 month mark, advising them that you are cancelling your membership or the billing may continue on after that on a month-to-month basis.
Gym memberships are like Rogers contracts...buyer beware...know exactly what you're signing up for, before you place your signature on the final line and give them your banking information!
Just to be on the safe side, even when your contract obligations are complete, you may want to go so far as to place a Stop Payment on that transaction with your bank, which may cost you about $10. It's money well spent, if you really want to be certain that you're done with that monthly PAC.

I am a member of the Steve Nash clubs. I joined the one in Richmond when it opened and now go mainly to the one in Morgan Crossing in South Surrey. When I joined I signed a one year contract. As Alex has stated, if I had decided to quit before that year was out, I would have been responsible for the balance. Now I am on an open month to month deal and I can leave at any time. I had paid for some personal trainer sessions in Richmond and when I moved to South Surrey, I had to contact them to transfer the sessions from Richmond. Other than that I have had no issues. Don't know about other clubs, however.

That might work for Joe's Gym but reputable gyms are as others atated in this thread.
There is sometimes an option to sign up on a month to month agreement but those agreements typically come at a premium charge compared to a minimum annual commitment.
What i'm curious about is what it means when they state that they can change your fees and charge you for anything they want without notice at anytime. What the hell is that about?
