What are the odds of a person knowing what you do with an e-mail adress? Can people trace it? I am curious to know, and they do not have access to the computer.

Generally from an e-mail address i don't think most could figure out your occupation (unless it was something like "call me for a good time @...")

there are programs that can trace an e-mail but I do not know that they can actually pin you down to one computer (one of the Mod's might know that)

email address etc

Well, if you are talking about an email address that is associated with a company, it's a different story. IE: Chantel@ABCcompany.ca

Many companies have privacy and use of equipment policies that enable them to have legal access to the usage of their company computers. Many run software that searches for key words etc looking for misuse.

Bottom line, don't risk a day job for surfin' fun etc. Opening a hotmail account is fairly safe.

It is quite easy to get a lot of information from an email address, if you known how. All you have to do is look at the path in which the email sent by looking at the properties. Even simple Google searches can provide a lot of info. If you are an ISP you can track it back to a specific physical address. If you are concerned whether someone one can track your email address use a web based email such as gmail or hotmail they are harder to track. You can also use an anonymous email such as hush mail
