Question - Urine testing

Whenever I have had a Urinary tract issue, have gone to the doctor thinking that maybe it is an STI or whatever, and of course a urine test is ordered. but yet have I had a report back from the lab that says there is an infection.

In fact what seems to happen very often, the lab sends back a report that it screened the urine for whatever, nothing was found that warranted a further analysis, yet the antibiotics that were issued clear up the infection and it seems no one ever knows what what exactly the microbe was?

Can you please explain?

Hi newatit

That is probably because we don't test for all bacteria that can cause symptoms.
Testing is usually done for gonorrhea and chlamydia but we know that some other bacteria can cause similar symptoms.
The other bacteria are generally not thought to be passed during sex so that is probably why we don't test for them.
You may have been told you have NGU, which just means that you have a "urethritis" that is not caused by gonorrhea or chlamydia.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you need more info.
