I actually rented a Wrangler 2 years ago in the middle of winter in Ontario. Drove from TO to St. Catharines a few times and also a trip to London, Ontario. Kinda when I got the itch for a jeep lol.

You should see me when I get out of my spyder with a mini on . Anyone in the area get a show lol./

I am reading the "Auto Dealer Four Square" now thanks for that advice. Knowledge is power.

I have confidence in my driving skills for a jeep. I took my road test in a F350 4x4 diesel and passed with perfect score. The lady giving the test looked frightened at first but after doing a quick perfect parallel parking job said take me back, you pass, I couldn't park this monster. I miss driving it.

I'm not sure how long I will be in the jeep phase but think need to at least get it out of my system lol.

Also on a good note one of the jeeps I was keeping my eye on has gone from a window sticker price (two weeks ago) of 44k to a online price of 39. Same vehicle. Maybe someone is getting hungry and end of month is getting close.

I hate to be rude here but...
" I know some of it depends on the sales guy and how low a comission he is willing to take"
Doesn't really sound fair coming from someone in your business.

Here's my take on buying a car these days, new or used. New cars you can go online and build them exactly how you want them and the price will be there. You know what you're going to pay before you even walk into the dealership. The exception of course are "American" made vehicles because they are way overpriced from the start so they can offer "deep discounts" but even these prices are usually available online.
As for used vehicles, same thing. Tons of information available online and a quick search of kijiji will usually let you know what you should be paying. Then you simply go in and lay down your best price.
Honestly I rarely bother to deal on the price of a vehicle. If I feel they have it priced fairly I just pay what they are asking, not worth my time to save $400 or $500 bucks on $40,000 for example. On the other hand if they are willing to drop thousands not sure they are the people I want to be buying from because they were willing to rip someone off given the chance. Plus if they are thousands overpriced I would simply buy the same vehicle from someone else priced correctly.

Ii don't think we are comparing apples to apples and pears to pears here.

Most sp's put down their non negotiable rates and I think most pooners realize this. I myself give my non-neg rate, state that and it is fair. No more, no less. In a hour I include all my services with no up charge. If its not there I don't do it.

When I go in for my coffee at Starbucks I don't try to negotiate the price, I know its set and that's what you pay or go somewhere else.

I think it would be fair to say that the new and used car culture is and always been about negotiating. Have you always paid sticker price for a new or used car?? I doubt there are many that have.

Again I'm not looking to rip anyone off, everyone needs to make a living. I just want a fair price that works for everyone.

*also the sticker price of 44k and now online price of 39 tells me they were really hoping for the winning sale of someone that walked in and paid inflated listed price.

Hi Riza! You had me at " I took my road test in a F350 4x4 diesel and passed with perfect score." I call that character reference! Hope you got comfortable with the Four Square! With new cars, ask for the invoice and negotiate anything over what they got from the factory pricing. They will still make a profit! On used cars, there is no way to know how much they paid for it other than a lot less than the dealer is asking, hence the $4K drop on the Wrangler you like. They still have room to negotiate. The buyer road map looks like: Find the car you want. Know what it is worth before you step on the lot. Know what you are willing to pay and stick to it. Try to use anything other than Dealer Finance, credit unions, mattress money, family money (mom is getting .05% interest on her savings), banks. Saving $2K on a $40K car and getting hosed on the terms and conditions for $8K is seldom noticed by those who don't understand the Four Square! End of the month is the best time to buy! Look on the wall for Salesman of the Month, buy from that person. When the salesperson gets up to check with the boss, go with them; that will cut your deal time in half. If you are not getting the deal you want, after several trips to the desk, walk towards the door instead and keep going till the numbers are what you want! Understand that 2 months from now the value of everything will be different, cars probably a lot less. Offer the Sales Manager a Cleveland Steamer; that way he will remember you if you have to go back...

I had to look that up:

Cleveland steamer (plural Cleveland steamers)

(slang) A sexual act involving defecating on someone's chest, then sitting in it and rolling back and forth like a steamroller.

I guess he would definitely remember her if he even knew what it meant lol.

I have not read all the reviews above, but I have had a newer Wrangler. It was fun, but the CONS
Poor mileage
Back access is limited on the 2 door.
You cannot truly lock the vehicle if it's a soft top. Anyone can unzip the windows.
The Biggest one, for Vancouver, is the way the roof is over the front seats. When you open the door and it's raining, the rain pours into the Jeep, and you, near the front of the side windows. there is a little rubber trough that directs that water right into the Jeep.
