My friend's daughter is turning six and they're having a birthday party for her this weekend. I was wondering if any of you with kids had any suggestions on what kids her age were into these days or what may be a good gift. I'm guessing that they've outgrown Cabbage Patch dolls, Glow Worms, and Jem and the Holograms. I'm not looking to spend a lot, less than $40 preferably, just wanted to pick your collective brains.

Thanks

Have you asked any women? Women would give the most appropriate suggestions for little girls.

As the father of a now 8 year old I can tell you at 6 she was into Polly Pocket,Strawberry Shortcake,My little pony & Dora the Explorer. Skip-bo was also one she spent alot of time with. Hope that helps a little. Oh..and all under $40

I too am going to a 6 year olds birthday this weekend and i highly suggest asking mom and/or dad for recommendations. I was just in Toys R Us and was completely overwhelmed with the aisles and aisles of toys and such. I can't give you a suggestion since i was shopping for a boy but whatever you decide on don't forget the helium balloon. They sometimes are more cool to kids than the actual present. I always get 2. One for saving and 1 for either sending off into the sky or for talking funny with. Have fun!:)

If you don't know the child well enough, absolutely ask the parents. One six year old I bought a ballet kit, another a fisher-price tool belt, a third got bratz dolls. Find out what the kid is in to and shop accordingly.

Or the ever so never goes out style Litebrite. Keeps them entertained for hours and hours. Wal-Mart $19.97 extra sheets, $5.99/pack of 12 I believe.:)

if your not to far from metrotown, i'd recommend a store called build-a-bear workshop. anything in there should please any 6yr old girl.
it was my little niece's birthday a few days ago and got her a bear from there, she loves it.

When I was a kid, it was Barbie or My Little Pony

Just south of here
As the father of girls age 4 and 6, I can tell you what they are big into...

1. Build a Bear .. but the animal is just the start. Costumes, accessories etc = $$$$. Parents might not appreciate what you start.

2. Anything princess (Cinderella, Snow White etc). Costumes, DVDs etc. My girls also spend hours colouring, so any colour books etc with the princess, Dora etc theme are great.

3. Dora the Explorer, Strawberry Shortcake are also big.

4. Clothes (believe it or not) are an appreciated gift for young girls. Mine really love dresses or anything girlie.

Hope that helps.

Just a thought

How about a bag of Chocolate covered Espresso Beans and a bag of assorted whistles, should liven up the party :D . As far as a gift, I have no idea. Maybe a SZabina doll dressed in a CCCP tanktop, doh wait a minute that's what I want  .

I was apprehensive when I opened this thread. When I saw the title, "Question on six-year old girls", I thought you were a pedophile trolling for your latest victim.

What a relief when I saw you were looking for gift suggestions! :D

Thanks for all the feedback, it was most helpful.

I took your advice and spoke to my friend and his mother and was told that the birthday girl really likes anything to do with Disney Princesses (Julia and Walter win the prize!) and drawing. She apparently loves to draw and colour so that's made my quest much easier.

Yea, in retrospect, I guess I could have worded my title better. But, at least it got people's attention! :D

Thanks again.
