I was just wondering if any guys actually believe that you can be real friends with an SP? By real friends I mean someone who would call you up for no particular reason to invite you to dinner or something non-sexual. Perhaps I may have chosen the wrong wording but I think that there are too many SP’s out there that play you into thinking you are friends but in reality you are just another customer. Agree or disagree, I’m just interested in your answers.

SP's are people too.
Yes they are but being friendly with customers is good for business if you know what I mean. Yes there are those that truly want to be real friends but I just think many use friendship as a tool to build cliental. Does the friendship continue after they retire or does it end? I've found that many lose contact with you after they leave the biz.

My best friend happens to be an SP. Yes I met her as a client but after a couple of sessions I think we both knew we had a lot of things in common. How did I get to be her friend. I guess in some ways I was in the right place at the right time. I helped her out with some personal problems, I didnt have to it just seemed the right thing to do. Do we do ordinary things together yell yes all the time if you count getting groceries, going to whitespot for lunch etc. But here is the big question I know you're thinking. Do I still pay her, actually yes I do, its her job and I would expect her to pay me if she needed any work from me in my professional capacity. How do I know I'm a real friend. Well I'm probably one of the few people who knows what she does. I've met many of her friends and family members that dont know, and she trusts me enough to keep that to myself.

Friends and friendly are two different things.

Friendly = good for business.

Friends = bad for business. No SP can be best buddies life long pals and chums with every trick that stcks around past the 3rd visit.

Personaly the lifestyles are to different. I can't relate on a "shop talk" level. Sooner or later the day will come when your hanging around and you have to scoot because a "date" is coming over, or you can go hide in the spare bedroom and be told 5 million times keep the tv low and don't make any noise to spook the tricks.

Personaly for me this became lame with a extra large helping of gay on the side. I bailed.

This is true for any business. When you have a client, you want to be friendly with that client as it will allow you to build a rapport with them and provide the service they need. That does not mean that, in those rare circumstances, that a true friendship may blossom and grow.

One of my best friends happens to be a client. Like Chip's relationship, we spend alot of time just hanging out, shopping, movies, concerts, lunches. We talk on the phone almost every day. We make each other laugh and enjoy each others company immensely, both on the clock and off.

I can honestly say if I got to know him outside of this particular line of work, I would want to be his friend anyhow. It doesn't make sense to deny that from happening just because of the circumstances under which we met.

I know you asked for the guys opinions, but thats mine anyway :)

I know this isn't a question for the ladies, but I have made a few friends from being an SP. Victoria is a small enough town so you run a fair chance of running into clients (or ladies) if you go out enough. I have run into a few, and after they initiated conversation, I gladly spent some time chit-chatting with them, and then next thing you knew we were going for coffee or seeing a flick together. It does change the dynamics of the Sp/client relationship, but for me (and the people I am refering to) it hasn't damaged it at all. I guess you just have to find the right level of comfortabililty vs compatibility. You need a little of both to pull it off! Just my 2 cents...
