Question for Health Nurse: Cost of Hep A/B shots

I did a blood test for Hep A and B at my local Life Labs and I require booster shots since I am to travel to the Caribbean.

I assume this test is only for detection of Hep A and B response and nothing else?

My family doctor is scheduled to do the shots tomorrow, but I was wondering if purchasing the vaccine next door at the pharmacy is more expensive than having it done at Health Nurse's STD clinic? Am I able to bring in the Life Lab report and have the shots done at the STD clinic instead?

We would be able to provide the hepatitis B vaccine for free at one of our clinics. You would also qualify for the free hepatitis B vaccine from any of the public health units that have a STI clinic.

I am not sure what tests were ordered for you but it is common to also test for the hepatitis B virus as well to ensure you are not already infected.

We also have some hepatitis A vaccine as well but we do not provide it for people who just need it as a travel vaccination. It is available for people who can be high risk for hepatitis A in Canada e.g. people living on the street, men who have sex with men.
