If you are thinking of staying there however, the exterior and the first floor are very quaint, but the rooms are not nice at all. They are clean and painted, but I'm talking very old and worn sinks, tubs. Pipes running along the walls. Uncomfortable beds.

OH !!

But the location is so fantastic !!

There is a World Trade Converence that week ~ sigh ~ So most of the hotels downtown are booked, or their to expensive.

Paying over 300 a night is a bit extreme.

I respectfully disagree. Rooms at The Sylvia vary widely. While it's true that there are some cramped rooms on the backside of the building, many of those on the south side are huge -- larger than many suites -- and have great water views as well as clean, charming fixtures. I've stayed at The Sylvia for months at a time, and loved it. Just take a few moments to talk in detail about the room you are reserving. Insist on one of the larger rooms on the water side, and you'll do fine.
Their all booked .. I asked for a water front view ... Seeing the fog over the ocean is a breath taking view, but alas NOT available.

I could list all the places I'd checked but the list is endless.

I'm not surprised you are having problems boking a hotel when you want to come out.
