Hello gentlemen,
I have a couple of questions for you regarding the Calgary hotels...We usually take all of our hotels with priceline and never got any problems but we've noticed that in Calgary and Vancouver, there is a lot of hotels that required access card(key) to get upstairs...Any suggestions on hotels without acces card at a reasonable price ??

I would also like to know the best area for you guys in terms of trafic, parking but also good for the girls (safe, restaurants, shopping ect..)

Thanks for your help !

Maxine,

It depends on the quality of hotel you're looking for, and whether you need to be downtown or not.

In the motel village (16th Ave and Crowchild) there are a couple of nice hotels there which doesn't require cards. I found the quality of the room at Econo Lodge (Tower) is better than the rooms in the downtown hotels. ie. King size bed, very large room, large bathroom, and for around only $90 / night.

There are a couple of others around that village that has better name than "Econo Lodge" as well. The village is right next to a C-train station and is only around 6 minutes from downtown.

Alternative would be go a little south. For example, holiday inn on 12th ave, or holiday inn on Macleod Tr.

As it's likely most of the clientelle drive and or can afford a taxi, I think these two locations are reasonable.

Try this site http://www.discovercalgary.com/Calgary/WheretoStay/HotelsMotels/index.html

Let me know if you want more specifics on any of the hotels, I can find out for you.

Take care

Try Motel Village

I would second funloverking's recommendation - there are quite a few hotels in motel village that are less expensive than downtown but of equal or near equal caliber. On top of that it is an area with great access and in terms of parking etc. even better than downtown. Alternatively there are some hotels near (not right at) the airport on Barlow Trail that are fine as well.
I'm sure that I'm expressing the feelings of many Calgarians when I say - please please arrive in our city soon!!!!

Motel Village?

Given that the last time I saw one of I-N's ladies she was at the Marriott, I doubt if Motel Village would work for them. If I pay $300 I want better than Motel Village and I don't want to leave the downtown - but that's just me. In the downtown core, I would suggest Best Western on 8th Street or the Hawthorn Suites. Both are well located mid range hotels, with no card required for access.

$300 is not a lot of money considering they have to travel here. If you had to pay for an SP here and a hotel, it'd exceed $300 quite easily.

Maxine, I'd find out whether most of your clients would prefer downtown hotel or out of downtown. Myself I prefer out cuz parking there is a pain. But that's just me.

Parking preferred

I concur. The convenience of several hotels by the airport are much preferred.
Downtown is a pain.

Sheraton, Radisson, Delta Airport, Best Western on 16th...

Downtown or South works for me.

I don't think parking is a pain ... $3.00 or $10.00 more when you are spending $300.00 on the hour ?!?!?!? big deal.

Downtown vs Airport vs South

I guess it all depends on where you work/live. I work downtown so a hotel I can walk to is great. I'm not interested in driving to and from the airport. The poll suggestion is a good one. Saw Ashley from I-N yesterday and all was good - except for the card bullshit at the hotel!

Thank you...

Hello,
well, I am not too familiar yet with all the Calgary areas but thank you for the suggestions regarding the downtown hotels.. I will make a poll to find out what areas are prefered and if 2 areas are very popular, maybe we will alternate from time to time... So what will be the area names for the poll ? i only know about downtown and airport ??

Thanks again for your help !

I must say the card thing is very awkward.

There are 4 areas to look at

1) Slightly south of downtown - around 12th Ave
2) Motel Village - 16th ave and crowchild
3) Macleod Trail - Further south but not too far, north of 50th ave
4) Airport area

MMMM the airport area, I like that, not even 5 minutes from the Airport, and not even 5 minutes from my house.

Any travelling girls want a pick up at the airport and delivered to their hotel, let me know, the offer is on the table!

Other than that being said, yes I kinda felt a bit out of my league going to the Mariott, wouldnt want to be there often, I am way too blue collar for that fancy hotel. I saw Gigglez at her spot in the Hawthorn Suites, pretty nice for its prices I think. Gonna be considering Hawthorn on my travels out f Calgary.

Actually I enjoy the challenge of the card-activated hotel elevators. I enjoy the stare-down with the desk clerks when an attractive SP greets me in the lobby and we HEAD to the elevator. I look at it as an accomplishment, not a hastle!

Since when have you needed a card to access the elevator in the Marriott downtown? I used to stay there all the time last year when I was in Calgary and never had a problem. They didn't have card access then. Has it been changed recently? If so, that's a shame. I really enjoyed staying there.

It's been that way for quite a while........after certain hours the elevators require access card to get to guest floors.

Both Azen and lisa Gigglez are staying at Hawthorn suites right now, you could pm them and see what they think of the place.
Hell, a suite for a room price $99-$150 seems awfully good to me.

Best Western Suites Downtown

I have stayed in the Best Western Suites close to downtown on 8th St and 13th Ave SW which are very nice and reasonable. They are all suites converted from apartments so they all have kitchenettes and living areas and separate bedrooms. The suites are less than $100 per night. The penthouse suites are a little more with jacuzzi tubs but you have to have a card to access the penthouse level so that won't work for incall.
It is quite accessible and parking is good.

Hope this helps.

Best Western Downtown

Good choice for any SP visiting. Saw Saraphina there - room was fine, lots of street parking, discreet elevator access.

E-Town
I just got back from a weekend visit to your lovely city. I stayed at the Executive Royal Inn because I wanted a jacuzzi suite, and I got their weekend rate of $179/night.

Besides visiting some friends and hitting the Red Mile (especially the Metropolitan and Melrose), spent a couple of hours with Azen last night. She indicated that she loves your city and is seriously considering moving there.

I should also state that if I absolutely had to move out of Edmonton, Cowtown would be my first choice. Despite the differences between the two cities, I personally find there's enough similarities between both that it wouldn't be much of a big culture shock if I moved there. But of course, E-town has the better SP scene, so I hope Ralphie gets that bullet train built!!
