Generally, they'll push you to go on direct deposit which will get the money to you faster and prevent fraud. ("That wasn't me who cashed my cheque!)

but you still need to find a job and report back to them!
Nah, just pretend that you are looking for work is good enough.

The problem is getting approved...especially if you quit or got fired.
If you hate a job, the best thing to do is claim discrimination before leaving...talk it over with a manager...then quit. It will get approved, but will take some time. Another trick is to claim they vastly increased your workload with out you approving. Or you environment was dangerous to your health etc..

Yes you A self employed person can now pay in to EI... it was a a resent change to the EI act ..
When i first started my own company 30 yrs a go .. i was incorporated and every thing had a few part time employees and payed all the benefits.. If a company had three employees I could pay EI for my self .. so i did .. but realized that i would never collect so i stopped .. as an company owner your all ways responsible for get your own work and the ways EI was changing they don't want to pay people . If you work for a big company and they lay you off every now and then ... playing the system .. you usually will be hitred back so there is no need to look for work . it that seasonal thing / But self employed .. it is not worth the hassle.

Now there are a few benefits if you manage to put in the weeks to qualify .. It you are on EI you qualify for a bunch of programs that are only available to EI like job retraining and getting education programs payed for .

Wow, abusing the benefit that the government provides! No wonder this is a poor country and lots of young graduates can't find jobs!

If im self employed . and havent paid in to it,,, Any way of getting EI ??
I recently registered for EI as a self-employed individual, so I can provide a few details. You have to pay EI premiums for at least a year before you can claim any benefits, and the premiums are equal to 1.73% of your declared income. You have to pay into EI for as long as you're operating the business, and if you've received benefts in the past, you can't cancel your registration until the following year - you still have to pay premiums for the rest of the current year.

It's a good insurance policy - if you trip and break an ankle or something, you can claim sickness benefits while you recover. The benefits aren't huge, but at least you can receive enough to cover you rent and living expenses until you're healthy enough to work again.

If you've been an SP for a while, it might be a wise decision to register, because it can really help sex workers when they transition out of the business. It would also be a wise choice for anyone who's planning to have kids someday, because you can receive maternal and parental benefits equal to 55% of your income, to a maximum of $468 per week, for up to 50 weeks (15 maternal, 35 parental).

Here's a link with more information:
http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sc/ei/sew/index.shtml

Also, you can register online very easily through the ServiceCanada website, it took me all of 5 minutes to set up. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask! :)

Actually, the fact young graduates can't find jobs is because the economy sucks ass! We live in a bullshit/fake economy...people are getting rich from creating nothing.

I know...because I use to be a young graduate and this city has always sucked ass for employment!
