Quality of work it not good

Well was reminded today why job in the constrution industry are paying 25% less then they did 5 yrs ago

Quality of work is the shits.I have been in residentual housing for 40 yrs wotk at all faises .so when it comes to foundations I know what is good and bad work
I just saw a footings today .. the forms were all upand down and not strait .this on a house that will prob be in the 800 thousand ranger or . more.

To get a good square and level house it starts with the quality of work manship...Puting your footings in level a d strait makes it easier to put your forms in and less work ..but I have sedn this crap so much through the years and had to compet against there low prices

I was luck that mosf people i worked for wanted quality work they hired me for my good rep

But now in this economy it does nog matter .. and i see it and here about the bsd work . There is no excxuse for it ...if you know the right way . But the people they hire dont ..and dont care ..

like anything else, an industry whose only concern
is the bottom line could care less about craftsmanship.
really sad what people pay for shoddy construction.

Just curious, were you drunk or something when you typed this out? lol But in my experience in the construction industry, pay goes down people don't care as much in their work...

Yes in my experince that was what i saw too Thats why i worked for my own company and only with a few guys that i knew did a good job no matter what we ended up getting
I usually was the one that worked for less but i still did the best job I could
All most young guy are just there puting in time . till party time and hanging with tbe broes

Then again I dont think some the company attitudes help make workers that care about what they are doing ..Another reason i was self emploied

I noticed the decay in quality when the liberals got in power and messed with trade schools. The first thing they did was charge to go to school. SO many guys only go one or 2 years. Second we went through the Olympics and it was about bodies not skill. I am a carpenter and I was taught the trade. Now you have 22 year old kids that think they are the boss. They have only a limited skill but have been told by the media that they are rare as the baby boomers are retiring.

This goes further as a lot of companies have become very corporate and value labour as much as they value the lumber they use. In other words companies don't care about the works and will hire and fire on a regular bases so no one goes out of the way to do better.

The third thing is the cost of land. It is expensive and the only cost that can be adjusted is the labour. Example on the news tonight was a job down on Georgia where they have started hiring Irish guys. One guy got layed off do to migrant workers. He figured he was special as he did stairs. Any carpenter can do stairs or should be able to. SO Whitewater hired guys from Ireland that don't complain and propably do a much better job.
