Qi Gong...What is it?

Since the relaxation of regulations for massage parlors here in SF they have been poping up like dandilions (sp). Many of them are calling themselves Qi Gong Centers. Even my HK GF has opened one, but her English is not so good that I was able to understand her explanation of what it is.

What I am getting at here really is weather there are any of these places in Vancouver. Most of these new places look more like the salons on South Granville than AMP's from the outside. Here they would be called TAMP's (T=Therapeutic). Mostly for massage, but almost all provide R & T. She says one of her girls even provides FS, but that is unusual for a place like this.

So, if any Asian brother can help me out with an explanation of "Qi Gong", I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Chi Gong

It's a type of martial arts which specializes in the movement of chi energy through the body. At the basic level it is a warm feeling and as you learn to control it you can move it around your body. Through concentration and breathing techniques students learn focus their chi around the abdomen. When positive chi is centralized in this region it helps strengthen your immune system as well as giving you balance. Masters of chi movement are able to manipulate and channel negative chi into others causing paralysis, weakening the body and such. One of the better known affects of this is known as dim mak or "death touch". There is a master who is supposed to be able to affect the weather with chi gong.

Many students of the hard martial arts styles (karate, kung fu, etc) learn chi gong to enhance inner strength. Where once they were able to break only 6-8 bricks after learning chi gong they are able to break 10+ consistantly.

It's a way of using your inner energy. In some ways it's like Taichi. You learn about how to use breathing and movements to harness the energy, and some claim to be able to direct the energy at other people. You can see this in those movies where they attack other people using a ball of energy.

I think many of the MPs probably put that on their signs to try and look somewhat respectable. They can't just say Hand Jobs, BBBJ, and MSOG on their windows.

Thanks for the help everyone. Much better understanding now than what my HK GF was able to give me, and she owns one of these places. Truthfully though, by her own admission, it is just an R & T.

One of the hoops she had to jump through to get licensed was to hook up with an acupuncturist and have a copy of his license hang on the wall in the reception area. This gives the place a semblance of being legitimate. For this piece of paper, she gets to pay him $500 every month. Kinda steep, I told her, but it makes things easier.

ok. chi gong is a martial arts internal energy thingy. (i know. i practice tai chi)

qi gong is diff though. i actually don't believe in it. qi gong is like a massage, but (big BUT) the practitioner don't touch your body????? he/she will move their hands close to ur skin, but never actually touch. the supposed benefit is that these practitioners can channel n/or sense chi energy thru the space between and be able to adjust your chi to heal any ills.

there r true practitioners in vancouver. but yeah, some place r just front for MP like service.

by da way, chi master can channel chi thru to another person to adjust their chi. but that still require direct contact. that's why i don't believe in qi gong.
