The tiny but rich Qatar gets the nod to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup beating the US, Japan, and Australia among others. A country almost as big as Connecticut with a population of that of Houston makes history and becomes the first in the Middle East to host the World Cup. It's gonna be the hottest World Cup ever, I mean weather-wise :), so the said World Cup venue wll be air-conditioned. Even the star power of the US which included Bill Clinton and Japan's 3D proposal wasn't enough to convince the executive committee.

Personally, it's good for me as FIFA expands to a new market and Qatar has the financial capability of hosting the World Cup without going bankrupt. Qatar has the highest GDP per capita in the world. Plus, they have enough time to put in the necessary infrastructure before 2022, bigger international airport, hotels, etc. Nightlife in Qatar is good not great and its limited to the top hotels like Ritz and Sheraton. It will greatly improve by 2022.

Qatar surprised the world today by getting the nod for 2022 and it will surprised people more when it comes to hosting the first World Cup in the Middle East. :) :)

Pretty weak wilde but witty banter was never your specialty...carry on.
You called the crap you spill everyday witty banter... you truly are a piece of work (feel free to substitute shit for work). I was so happy when you decided to retire so I won't have to read your horseshit anymore. Why oh why did you come back and grace us with your unholy presence?

I have never been a big soccer fan. Just prior to the last WC I watched a video that explained the game basics to one such as myself. Then I understood why I wasn't a fan, except that over a few games I found myself better understanding some of the rudiments and became more engaged. Now I can at least say that I am interested.

Now play nice you two.

I bet the Russians set over a few of their beauties to the hotel rooms of the delegates voting.....and the money Qatar has, their incentives were probably at least that good. And what did England do? send over Beckham and Prince William to introduce the bid - that would really get my vote.

Russia then Qatar? Did either of these teams even make the last world cup?
Has Qatar ever made the world cup?
I am not a big soccer fan, but these games should be played where they care about and excel at soccer.
It's like having the next world junior hockey tourney in Mexico or something.

Not bad for a soccer team ranked #113 in the world.
The World Cup is played in July? Good, temp. should be around 46c

Well, Prime Minister Putin has the juice. He's bringing F1 Racing to Russia by 2014. In 2007, he successfully campaigned to get the next Winter Olympics on 2014 to be held in Sochi. Plus, one of his favorite tycoons who also owns Chelsea FC, Billionaire Roman Abramovich, bankrolled the World Cup campaign.

England only got a very dismal 2 votes out of 22 and one of them was their very own vote and the other was from the FIFA head from Cameroon who they supported years back to become FIFA President. At least the latter showed some gratitude. :)

Australia brought in Supermodel Elle MacPherson to campaign. Still hot after all these years. Didn't make a difference though as they were gone in the first round. Quite surprising as they were expected to go much further.

I guess star power can only bring you far as with the United States. :) :)

They do care about soccer in the middle east. It's just that Qatar is the only country in the area who could host such a tournament. And once you're talking about countries that are so otherwise meaningless, who cares how difficult or easy border crossing is?

As Winston Churchill once said: "You can tell a lot about a country by comparing how many people are trying to get out of it with how many people are trying to enter it"

The World Cup in Qatar might be moved to January 2022 instead when the weather is about 25 degrees. Best time to visit Qatar is from December to Feb when the weather is much cooler. :) :)
