she's a lay person

why ask a bunch of lay people? Walk on down to your Physician/Physiotherapist and ask a professional (your local fitness trainer doesn't count as a professional either). If it is weak in the knees then probably too many orgasms before your workouts!
Might be because VV is a 'lay person' herself? Could not resist:)

Hey Vv

well hmm this thread went way off topic, but just to try and bring it back ....

I would agree with whoever said it was lactic acid buildup. although in most cases the lactic acid pools and bugs you more after a work out. Lactic acid blocks the muscles ability to absorb oxygen and so you get small pockets of muscles around the lactic acid that cramp up.... Knots in the back you can feel are a good example.

Now someone wrote about balancing the alkaline/acidity ratio in your body and was entirely correct. I myself competed in track at the national level and had this problem all the time.

a quick certain cure is to take some vinegar(plain and white) and mix it with water. Now for quick results consider this: your body has to heat anything it wants to absorb up to working temperature...about 98 degrees. so hot water with one teasoon of vinegar will help you within about 10 minutes. the vinegar will break the lactic acid down and blood will move it away .

hope this helps you out. one more thing to consider with knees and ankles is never use heat. heat is for muscles and knees basically have no muscle in them so for swelling or pain only use ice.

cheers!
