I am not naive enough to think this doesn't happen all the time, in fact it is probably a common place occurence. However, that being said can we forgive the indiscreet and boorish behaviour of professional athletes just because of the status they enjoy in society?

I know sites like the dirty are little better than the National Enquirer as far as fact checking or trustworthy sources of information, yet I can't help but raise an eyebrow when I see the "dirty" laundry of local pro athletes like Ryan Kesler being aired for everyone to see.

Here's the link to the article in question: thedirty.com/2013/09/who-else-is-a-victim-of-ryan-kesler/

Should they be held accountable to lower or higher standards than the rest of us when it comes to infidelity?...I mean why get married if you plan on chasing ladies and tagging as many as possible in every city you travel to? The tempatation to stray must be very high when you have ladies willing to give it up to you simply because you are famous...I doubt I would be able to resist the temptation myself if I were in a similar postion, but to seek it out...seems to me that suggests a certain degree of arrogance or self entitlement on the part of the seeker.

As a wife of a pro athlete should you be under no illusion that in all likelihood your husband will be cheating on you on a regular basis? Is it part of the package? You trade a faithful spouse for a affluent lifestyle?. Is that a fair trade?

I welcome your thoughts..

You do realize 90% of the things on "the dirty" are made up by 18 year old unemployed girls who have nothing better to do

ryan kesler (or any pro athlete) isnt going to go to a dump like the Roxy to meet some average girl

if everybody who was married stuck to their vows boards like this one wouldn't exist. People who live in glass housed shouldn't throw stones.

Unless it involves underage girls or non- consensual, I don't see why it's anyone's business.. And other than the person they're married to, I don't think anyone is entitled to expect to be "owed" anything..

And it's just that. They are professional athletes. I hold them accountable for their performance on the field and how they stand up as a team member. What they do off the field is not "professional" and I don't give a damn what they do(with the exception of criminal activity). They wanna go boffing ladies left and right that's his and his wife's problem not mine. They are entitled to some privacy just as the rest of us are. Reminder, they are pro athletes...... We don't need to take it all the way off the field sometimes.

Funny how, as a society, we don't seem to hold up actors and musicians to the same bar. Anytime they run astray it seems to make their reputation go up, not down.

Forgive them for what? Have they wronged us in some way? Like anyone else, if they take a risk, they might get caught and talked about. If they are being unfairly accused of something, that is another issue entirely. While we all might think those in the public eye should be setting a good example for the rest of the world, I doubt very many took a vow to do so. It's unrealistic to assume all well known people should be setting a good example for the world.

Dunno why people rag on kesler, Geroy Simone has been banging chicks in this city for years. Guy has a kid and sleeps around.

It isn't anything new, Patrick Ewing had a special lap dance from a stripper when he played for the Knicks, Jordon got shitfaced hammered before game 6 of the NBA final.

Honestly, it because the media loves to dig for dirt that people give so much shit about what people do anymore. I'm sure 20 years ago, pro sports player probably nailed a lot of chicks and did all types of shit that no one knew about.

Their behaviour matters only when they are held up as role models for children. If they make millions endorsing products for kids, then condemnation of certain behaviours -- and losing those endorsement contracts -- is appropriate.

It doesn't only apply to athletes....much of the whole "shock" over Miley Cyrus' unfortunate exhibition at the VMAs was Moms realizing this was the same person who had been selling their little girls Hannah Montana merchandise, and whose posters were still on their bedroom walls.

I have a friend seriously into cycling -- nearly 60 -- who held up Lance Armstrong as a role model for himself -- and who still won't admit Lance is an asshole. As an adult, that is my friend's problem only.
