I think that would be a little difficult when all they ask for is a name and an e-mail address which, in the case of the name, does not necessarily have to be your real name and you can always provide a Hotmail or Yahoo e-mail you create specifically for the purpose.JustAGuy said:I had a look and was all set to get a number for Snohomish, Washington (where once I lived) but the fine print in the "Terms and Conditions" kind of scared me off. I understand that I'm not giving them much in the way of personal information but there was sort of a tone of "we'll hunt you down and make you pay if you owe us any money" that gave me pause for thought. I may yet do it because I like the concept. I just need to convince myself that they can't impose charges then track me down with a team of lawyers if I decline to make payment.![]()
Call me paranoid but in the age of data banks that know virtually everything about an individual, I don't think it would be quite as hard as you think. By virtue of me simply visiting their site, they captured information that tells them I'm in Winnipeg and that Shaw is my internet provider. Obtaining further information probably wouldn't be all that difficult for them.Victoria Rose said:I think that would be a little difficult when all they ask for is a name and an e-mail address which, in the case of the name, does not necessarily have to be your real name and you can always provide a Hotmail or Yahoo e-mail you create specifically for the purpose.
I mean, how on earth can they possibly hunt you down when they don't even know what continent you're on, much less what country you live in?
If you're that concerned about the tracks you leave online, perhaps you should install Anonymizer.JustAGuy said:Call me paranoid but in the age of data banks that know virtually everything about an individual, I don't think it would be quite as hard as you think.
