Welcome to the 'Obama Nation'

Of course the jokes will really start coming now. I have a friend from Louisiana who told this one to me on the phone tonight...he saw it on the internet. It's as bad as they come...

What do Lincoln, JFK, and Obama all have in common?

Nothing, yet.

Ugh. That's so bad, it's hard to repeat.
Kinda.
I ran in to this before the election. It's totally hilarious:

http://obamaschocolatenuts.com/

In support of the Republican vote on Election Day, McDonald's was offering with their coffee, pure McCain sugar...

At least now life (an AM radio - lol) can get 'Barack to business'...

It's quite simple for Barack,

40% of his votes came from Hispanics
18% came from students
15% from African Americans

Unfortunately all these groups have their hands out financially as they comprise the bulk of the welfare / working poor class. So... who is he going to tap to pay off all these people who think they have a free ride coming in the form of reduced tuition, increased welfare payments, reductions in their mortgages and all the other niceties that would come with this tremendous 'change'.

Oh that's right he is going to tax all of us (those) who make over $250,000. Guess what, the air is pretty thin here and the numbers of individuals earning that can't possibly hoist the masses thru this 'wealth re-distribition' plan.

Obama and Dem's are opposed to NAFTA and have allready caused considerable carnage in BC with their adamance that BC lumber be tarrifed
outside of NAFTA which has put many many BC workers out of their jobs.
I just cringe when I heard of Canadians thinking that Dems or Obama was going to be the next best thing. Are they logically illiterate like many of his supporters tended to be or just caught up in the euphoria that they are so modern so progressive that they wanted to be part of a group to elect an African President?

And lest you think I'm racist, I could care less what colour the President is but I look at his/her voter base and his/her policies and try to see if I can find common ground.

I couldn't with Obama.

San Francisco Bay Area
Remnants of the old Mason Dixie Line (north vs south division) still linger in the local attitudes
It is going to take a long time to change the minds of people south of the Mason Dixon line, but it is changing. Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina all lie below that line and they voted Blue (North Carolina still has not been finalized, but looks very promising).

It is the Deep South which will have a hard time changing their attitudes.

Barack Hussein Obama II

I came a cross this article findings somehow quite interesting Obama is a Muslim name so his father and his step dad are too but, his mother half sister and wife are not

Obama’s ‘Muslim past’ back on the agenda

The issue of Barack Obama's Muslim past – a potentially hot button in post-9/11 America - resurged last week with fresh reports of his years between six and 10 at a Muslim school in Indonesia. Obama's campaign immediately cried foul, and denied that the candidate had ever been a "practising" Muslim, writes Charles Laurence from New York.

Then on Sunday, with fortuitous timing, the senator’s half-sister Maya, nine years younger than Barack, entered the fray when she was featured in the New York Times magazine’s "Questions For" column. She claimed Islam has been "erroneously attached" to her brother.

Maya Soetoro-NG responded to an initial question on whether their mother had been an atheist, an equally controversial stance in pious America. "I wouldn't have called her an atheist," she said. "She was an agnostic. She basically gave us all the good books - the Bible, the Hindu Upanishads and the Buddhist scripture, the Tao Te Ching – and wanted us to recognise that everyone has something beautiful to contribute."

Very diplomatic. But columnist Deborah Solomon followed-up: "You didn't mention the Koran in that list, although Indonesia is the most populous Muslim country in the world."

"I should have mentioned the Koran," answered Maya. "Mom didn't really emphasise the Koran, but we read little parts of it. We did listen to the morning prayers in Indonesia."

The truth is that Barack Obama was registered at the Muslim school as a Muslim, and attended compulsory Koranic classes. A former classmate, contacted by journalists last year, reported that "Barry was a Muslim" and "went to the Mosque".

When the issue came up last year, Obama flatly denied that he had ever been a Muslim. Then, after details of his schooling emerged, he shifted to his current position of never "practising" as a Muslim.

There is no evidence that Obama kept the faith after leaving Indonesia at 10 to attend high school in Hawaii. Years later he joined a Baptist church in Chicago, joining Oprah Winfrey in the congregation.

Opponents claimed last week that turning his back on Islam makes him an apostate - a death penalty offence. Thus a potential president becomes a target for Islamic retribution.

"I don't want to deny Islam," said his half-sister. "I think it's obviously very important that we have an understanding of Islam, a better understanding. At the same time, it has been erroneously attached to my brother. The man has been a Christian for 20 years."

the real deal!

Barack's upbringing had to do a lot as to why he won the job.
just look at his upbringing.

and besides being educated and articulate –finally, someone that we all avj joes can understand– the man has a vision not just for the USA, but for the world. is it any wonder why other countries were elated after the news? he's a spiritualist much like the Dali Lama and I think it's what this world needs right now.

it's about solid ideas and sound beliefs that won many people over, I think him 'being black' is overplayed. I saw someone who is smart and proposed new ideas. and finally, the people listened.

I hope he makes good on his promises–God bless Obama.

But as a native South Dakotan that had lived in Florida for over ten years I think that the assertion that anyone who wanted McCain to win somehow has a racially motivated agenda is total BS.

I cast my vote for Bob Barr. I don't think McCain or Obama are qualified to be President of this country. Their stances on the environment, taxation and the economy, and immigration leave a lot to be desired. Barr was the only candidate who held to the real ideas that the founders of our country based our Constitution on, and he didn't even get to debate those two clowns.

It scares me how far people have their heads up Obama's ass though. Last time I checked the man doesn't heal lepars or walk on water. I think its a good thing that a racial minority got elected to the highest office in the land. Its a step forward. But the fact he is half black doesn't make him a good candidate for President. In fact I daresay that if he was Barrack Obama minus the black part he wouldn't have ran away with the election

With his views he's more suited to be the leader of Switzerland...not America. Maybe he will govern from the center but his record in the Senate doesn't indicate that he will. His ideas aren't all that different than Jimmy Carter's. Those four years turned out pretty well for us didn't they?

The sad thing is that Bush gets blamed for everything...somehow people will probably pin the Kennedy assasination on him as well. Bush has made a lot of mistakes but he's not to blame for EVERYTHING as so many vociferous left wing zealots would want everyone to believe. The left wing media has done such a hatchette job on his policies and character over the past eight years that at times its hard to know what to believe. I have my issues with Bush just like I did with Clinton. Bill wasn't the savior either...well just not that Bill...try Bill Gates.

The economy of the 1990's had a lot to do with Microsoft and Apple...the dot com boom. Clinton was smart to just stay out of the way of industry. That being said there needs to be regulation on Wall Street but to think that excessive regulation solves everything is naive. Maybe that works up there but here the government has a way of fouling things up.....see Social Security and public education.

The founders had faith in the wisdom of the people.....but Obama and the left wing gestapo doesn't....they scare me as much as the extreme christian right. They both think they have the right to tell the rest of us how to live.

It's people like you and deberry that just need to STFU, because you haven't a clue what you are talking about....guess what? You can quit campaigning, because he's been voted the president of the US.....What the fuck do ya want us to do? I'm going to do what a reasonable person would do....Give him some time and a chance.....I was going for him anyway.

Congrats to the American people. It looks like you folks have a president elect who actually cares about your well being. He's got one hell of a shit job ahead of him and I wish him all the best.

And to the person who compared him to Carter, those four years did turn out pretty well in hindsight compared to the recession of the 80s. When he left office, the US still had a balanced budget.

Carter

Was one of the worst Presidents we've ever had. He's done good with homes for humanity and all....but let's not confuse that with how he ran the country. You can't run too far right, or left...it doesn't work. Its been tried and failed by both parties.

Also the last time I checked Congress spends money, not the Oval Office...Presidents approve spending however and every one we've had in recent memory seems to not having a problem spending money instead of paying off the deficit. Clinton paid down but reduced military size and budgets to do it also. So lets not crown him just yet.

The real problem is the wasteful spending that goes on in Congress. The solution to that problem is term limits but thanks to our Supreme Court that's not an option right now. Somehow term limits are constitutional for the President, Governors, and State Legislators....just not Congressman....I'd really like a good explanation of how that one works.

Though I'm sure there was racial bias,in some states.
I was watching on CNN and they showed an interesting graphic of democratic voting patterns across the US for Obama, then compared it to previous democratic presidential candidates (Kerry, Gore, and Clinton). What was striking was when you looked at the lower half of the country, excluding Cali and Fla, democratic support for the previous three candidates was fairly consistent on a county by county basis, with some fluctuations of course (Clinton and Gore had some pretty good support from the southern US). But once they took a look at voter distribution for Obama, you could see that democratic support in the south and south eastern US almost vanishes. It was quite telling.
