I tend to agree.
Put it off for another year- then put it off again...…..
If there is no ride hailing services from Uber and/or Lyft by the time the next provincial election comes around it will be interesting to see what the NDP put on their platform - "We promise to continue to put off ride hailing with studies, etc". More likely it will be something like "Ride hailing is almost ready to go live, so stick with us" or some similar bs. Either way, the Liberals will make a lot of hay off the NDP's inability to get ride hailing launched in all the time they were in power. And the Greens, who are currently keeping the NDP in power, will use it against them as well.

I laugh because this was an NDP platform item. Along with $10 daycare, affordable housing/rent etc...so you would think they would have done some preparatory study in advance, but Nope! Gotta keep on looking at the issues ad nauseum.
Nothing fucking changes except which side of the aisle they sit on......

Am I surprised? Not at all. The EI community got the NDP into power (partly to remove bridge tolls) and it is the EI community that controls the taxi lobby. I predict that as long as the NDP are in power there will be no Uber or similar ride hailing.

The Liberals delayed this many times to review all the studies on the subject.
Both parties own this one.

Lobbies are strong in BC and own the Govt of the day provincially and municipalities too.

Uber can work...but it depends on the driver pool. If you follow Uber the way I do, you'll find they have lot's of problems. Based on what I know of the industry, Vancouver will be a problem City for them if they operate as they do elsewhere. Not because the concept is bad....but because they will have a lousy driver pool.
