What, no Pavel Bure as well, making it a 3 way deal with the Rangers?

The Canucks would be stupid to give up Jovo. He's popular in the dressing room, one of Bert's best friends on the team, tough on the ice, one of the few Canucks who can fight, and is coming off all-star seasons & selections to the national team.

Maybe Keenan likes experience over youth, but that deal makes no sense for the Canucks no matter what the potential of the Bow Monster.

Luongo is marginally better than Cloutier at best, with about zero playoff experience.

On the other hand, with a newbie GM itching to make a deal here in Van, maybe it'll happen. *shrug*

...and the Canucks INSIST Dave Gagner is part of the deal! Sorry, that was Burkie.

If I'm Nonis I make this deal immediately.

I don't think the Panthers will make that deal. Jovo will be unrestricted next year and so will Cloutier.

i think they might have to make the deal because of cap space like so many teams do, now a days you can't hold on to guys or else you risk running your team into the ground because you have no cap space to keep the good players just look at tampa bay where they might have to get rid of st loiuis because of cap space

Roberto Luongo is an amazing goaltender. He's played on a extremely shitty team and surprising he doesn't let in 7 goals a game there. I think if he is playing in Vancouver they have a better shot at winning a Stanley Cup with him in net then Dan Cloutier. Roberto Luongo is just that dam good.

lol, i got that joke. :D i like jovo and wouldn't want to see him go but if him leaving meant dan cloutier is gone as well then i would consider it. i always liked pat quin but i thought that was his biggest mistake to stick with cloutier. i really like that the nuckers signed anson carter. seems like a positive aquisistion to me. what does everyone else think?

Good gamble for the money. So it looks like...

Naslund-Morrison-Bertuzzi
Carter-Sedin-Sedin
Linden-Kesler-Cooke
King-Bouck-Ruuttu or Park or Brookbank

Jovanovski-Allen
Ohlund-Salo
after that good luck (Lachance?)

Cloutier-Auld

Should make the playoffs....barely.

Jovo wouldn't mind going to Florida as he has a house there (he lives there off season).... but Nonis doesn't want to mess with the 'core' players.

Cloutier is not signed and neither is Bouwmeester.

i think they will challenge for the division lead, they still have one of the best lines intact and i would want to hear what lines better than naslund-morrisson and bertuzzi and with the added bonus of stars like allen, sedins, getting a few more years they should contend

The trade makes sense, Canucks need to unload Jovo....he is going to be UFA after this season. Now think about this, Jovo's wife is from Florida, and he lives there off season....and being UFA, he can sign with Florida, and Canucks gets NOTHING. Trade him now and get something, then nothing in 10 months time.

The odds of Jovo resigning wth the Canucks are slim to none, the Canucks have very little cap room left....and Jovo will be asking for more than 4 Million he is making now. Unless Canucks can come to an agreement fast with Jovo's agent with a long term contract at about 4 million/year....trade him.

Here is something for everyone to think about, Cloutier wants more than 2 million per season and a long term contract.....while Cujo signs with the Phoenix for just 900,000 and for one year only. With Cujo signing for so little, and a lot of good UFA goalies out there, why would we want to sign this Cloutier?!?

If the trade rumors is true, Nonis is an idoit for not pulling the trigger.

Cheers

why is no one talking about anson carter? that guy kicks ass.
He's good, although I wonder why teams keep trading him. Maybe he'll find his niche with the Canuckleheads.

If that trade is available, Nonis is a fool not to pull the trigger. Nonis is too conservative and not an aggresive trader like Bobby Clarke or Keenan.

Keenan was responsible for getting Bertuzzi.

Are you suggesting that the Canucks should have signed Joseph? He couldn't even win anything with Detroit, how the hell do you expect him to put the Canucks over the top? And name one good UFA goalie.

It's like I said in an earlier thread....
""Sure but who's REALISTICALLY available and available at the right price? Right away count out Brodeur, Luongo, Khabibulan, Theodore, Kolzig, Turco, Raycroft, DiPietro, Esche, and Kiprusoff. So what's left?
Biron? Not available, yet.
Boucher? May be available as a back-up.
Dunham? See Boucher.
Aebischer? Unproven and couldn't win with a great team.
Roloson? Not available and a straight swap.
Fernandez? See Roloson.
Lalime? Not available and same playoff history.
Haesk? Not available but may be too old, recently inactive, and expensive.
Belfour? See Hasek and add more $$$.
Joseph? Has never won anything, a chronic loser, and too old.
Burke? Not available. See Joseph.
Giguere? One playoff run does not make a star and too expensive.
Nabokov? Not available and hasn't won anything yet.
Vokoun? See Nabokov.
Thibault? No longer available and at best the same as Cloutier.
Denis? Career back-up.
Legace? See Denis
Weekes? No longer available, been-there-done-that, loser.
Potvin? See Weekes but available.
Snow? See Weekes and Potvin.
Chechmanek? Available but whacked out and iconsistent. A step back.

So you have virtually no choice but to stick with Cloutier and pray that Auld plays better here than in Winnipeg last year, and pray again that either or both of Plante and Vincent turn out.""

He's good, although I wonder why teams keep trading him.
Good point but prior to 2003/04, he was dealt for some good players (Guerin) or as part of a larger deal (Otaes, Tocchet, Ranford). With the lockout coming, I think the trades etc in the 03/04 season were largely motivated what was about to happen.
