Post cleanup: auto removal of unnecessary blank lines?

This new forum is really esethetically pleasing to me.

Nonetheless, It seems a few posters love to insert many, many blank lines or paragraphs within their post or comment. These blanks are usually at the end of their post, perhaps leading to an added sentence or their signature block (can you say huge ego?). I don't see any purpose to this. The post is further dragged out with needless use of blank or white space. Should someone quote that particular post, it futher makes the thread "longer" and not so "easy" on the eyes.

Is there a code the admins here can insert into this forum software which removes redunadant blank lines so posters and readers alike won't have to be subjected to the trolling behavior I'm referring to?

I would argue against letting the system change the authored text. Some people deliberately format ads and such to make things look right. Facebook does this, removing multiple returns, so that feature request certainly isn't out of line. A lot of people abuse formatting if given that power.

The system already consolidates adjacent spaces, changing them all to one space, but it does not consolidate multiple returns / line-feeds. The system seems to be missing a code-quote (mono-spaced text) feature that is commonly available on boards that have a programming focus.

In the preceding example, I have deliberately used 3 returns in a row on purpose to better separate the paragraphs better. What the example shows is NOT retained, is deliberately placed run-on spaces. (Of course, columns are there as a feature but they take up far more space.) Tabs are missing too, but that rarely is included in wysiwyg text editors anyways.

That is my two cents on the subject.

The post clean up is IMHO glitched (on iOS at least). I'm frequently finding backspacing to the beginning of a paragraph (and sometimes beginning of a sentence if, say, undoing an auto-correct mishap) takes out the paragraph break or the sentence space too, and then it's a struggle to get the auto-capitalisation to behave as I try to correct it.
