“I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me.” — Pope Benedict XVI

I think that says it all.... Agree or disagree with him on any/many things. Doesn't matter. ....... Fact is he cannot do the pope job anymore.

I'm actually kind of impressed. It's rare that people have the strength and vision to step aside. Most of time these old bastards/bitches go to get grave with their power still clenched in their cold dead hands.

I bet he has a rocking pension.
The first in 700 years bit is misleading. Not many people retired in the 1300s. Almost everyone worked till they died.

The last pope who retired willing was immediately imprisoned in a fortress when the new pope took over, and then mysteriously died of a hole in the head.

He's stacked the decks with conservatives, so his replacement will be as fossilized as he is.

It's pretty clear to me that this has been in the works for a while. Explains Alinburnaby's departure from perb awhile back. He needed the time to prepare for his new role...

they got the goodies on him , he has been diddiling little boys for years and before he was pope , he was the Cardinal in charge of investigating sex abuse cases , and he covered most up as the ring of didilers pointed right at him.
Intelligent persons around the world are smarting up and bailing out of this bullshit Cartel religion.
selling dreams to poor people and wanting to keep them poor.
What reallllllly errrrks me is this mafia is tax free.

So are you selling your domicile and donating the money to Scientology?

Seriously though.

I went through 1st to 5th grade in the Catholic school system and in looking back
it was far superior to the public school system. No I did not have nuns teaching
classes as a lot of people supposed.yes there was a religious component to it
and we did go to church from school for certain things and religious stuff such
as Lent was observed obviously. One super positive thing I can reflect on
about being a student in a Catholic school was the total control and clampdown
on bullying. It rarely happened and if it did the offender got frog marched to the
principle's office and got the dreaded "strap" in short order.

I wont speculate or even guess why the Pope is relinqueshing his position
of power but all I can say is I am surprised that he has done so.

The 2 subjects that are taboo to talk about are religion and politics.
Now there is the nastiest beast of them all..RELIGEOUS POLITICS....where
a conclave of Catholic Cardinals elect the next Pope.

Should be interesting to say the least.
