Saw this article the other day.

Speaking with a number of friends and family across the province I know things are not great all over.

How has or has it affected pooning in Alberta? Have appointments fallen off, are ladies travelling more, are they leaving the province, are they retiring, are the prices dropping? Are guys pooning less?

Just curious.

Cheers

A girl told me that she went to calg for stampede and didn't have a single customer. She came home early.

Cami, I'm having a great deal of difficulty imagining any of your tours may "bust," and you're lacking for client's!

(although the strategy of touring interesting cities is simple and brilliant)

True, but just incase... Besides, I'm low volume so I don't so much tour as take working vacations, and work enough to take a free trip with a little extra. This is life, it's all about fun!

I find this bizarre in ways. This is why....

I have a few friends in 2 different sectors of the economy who tell me this " cow town / Alberta down-turn " hasn't affected them one bit. One, who installs home and car entertainment equipment, is busier than dog scratching fleas. And the other(s), who work at 2 different Costco's say their stores are insanely busy with huge line-ups. People have to eat but at their Costco's, they shop and spend like there's no tomorrow. One told me....working here ( Costco ), we don't see it " .

I shop at Costco too......it never stops there.

So, I wonder how small of the circle is really being eating?

Being based in Calgary, I can say I have way fewer oil executives coming to visit me.
Way fewer shift workers/ riggers as well.

Things are overall steady ish.
June/July was crap but it usually is. Stampede time was so bad this year for me, even being downtown for the first time.

Very grateful for my loyal regulars!
Hoping the economy picks up soon!!

Still lost in the '60s
When I was in Calgary a few years ago, it was horribly overpriced for pooning compared to Vancouver. I hope rates have become more reasonable.

Calgary always has all the best touring SPs visiting there on a regular basis along with many good locals.

They are not hurting too bad so don't feel bad for them. :nono:

Interesting. I'm sure the entire economy is not in the tank but I'm sure guy's disposable incomes are down and most of us use our disposable income for our recreation.
Places like Costco are going to flourish when times are bad as people who normally would not shop there, like me (I have no need for a drum of ketchup or a 100 pack of men's socks - LOL!), are now shopping there for the savings.
I have a female client who told me she travels to Calgary quite a bit. I have no personal knowledge but she told me there are a couple 2nd hand/consignment stores in Calgary that handle high end women's items. I guess she goes in there when in Calgary and was telling me that in the past year the places are full of Gucci, Versace, Prada, Kate Spade, etc. that all the oil exec.'s wives are having to sell.

I can't imagine belle having any trouble. I check out her site and her pics are beautiful and her prices seem very low and reasonable. prices must have dropped, its been a long time since I checked out any ones site. so I have no idea. but just a guess they have gone down by her site.

its hit and miss in Calgary depending on what sector of the economy your in.,, there is a lot of dam money here make no doubt about that. but the oil sector is hit hard. a lots of unemployed people buses are down and flights are way down from ft mac, almost none to what the were,
the guys working in the ivory towers in downtown cowtown, are at bare bones and just hanging no Christmas parties no stampede parties nada for most of them not even any coffee in the office. there just praying the next boot doesn't drop.

but you get away from the oil sector and business can be booming in some areas. we recently had a hail storm. I talked to a guy on the weekend, he does hail damage, he will have more work then he can handle for six months or so.

ndp government invested some money, so I know some guys who got in on that as well, quite a few new schools going up, and hospital reno's so again some of the construction people are quite happy, in the short term any way.
but yeah there hurting people and some big smiles in cow town.

my sp. semi retired and older. quite happy with the few older gents she still sees. not quite sure how she will make out when she comes out of retirement like she keeps threatening to.

I actually have raised my hour rate a few months back. The average seems to be around 280$/hour.

I keep busy enough for my liking but again, I am not a very high volume kinda of gal so "booked up" for me might not have the same meaning as somebody else's " booked up".

That being said, I've also noticed more interest in massages or guy making the switch once in a while. Is it to save a couple of 20's ? Could be.

Thanks for the advice. I will do some research. I don't know where my hotel will be so I need to get that info first.
