I've known susi for a lot of years, probably more then she would want to admit to, more then I want to admit to. Initially I met her as a client, and from the first time we met she knew my name, my business and where I could be found. It was never an issue, or a problem. I moved on and lost track of her for a number of years and then re-connected. This time around on a social basis. We met over a pint or two and of course at a WERL with others in the industry. I find privacy is not as big an issue for me as for some, but let me put it this way ED, susi would not violate your privacy or confidence, or that of anybody else that took part in these meetings. Mind you, if you wanted it out there she would probably paint your name on her ass and run naked through the streets......."ED was here"

Attacking susi, or questioning her motives just does a disservice to her and to everybody in the industry, on both sides of the bed. If there is under representation from one sector of the industry, then maybe some light can be shed by those that use the services. If SW's and AMP girls are under represented, then maybe some of you that use those services can shed some light on that area of the industry. I say maybe, because I really don't know if it would help or not, I do know it can't hurt. While everybody is entitled to an opinion, maybe in this situation you might not want to be an ass about it.

How about anonymous meetings in the lounges of PERB, TERB, MERB, etc? Polls on specific questions you are interested in could be posted.

I think it might be safe to say the "pooner perspective" would in most cases be against pooning being criminalized or subject to the death penalty.

and it worries me that pooners are not included in the dialogue as an asset or part of the solution but rather as an after thought or a "problem".

i would love to hear how you guys feel we could best support bringing your voices to the table.

Pooners` thoughts on just about any subject are all over the internet. If research on issues you are interested in
hasn`t already been done, then perhaps it`s time someone did it. Uncle?

i am hoping to support pooners in discussing PURCHASING sex and the risks they face, not asking them to talk about their sessions with workers. workers are not invited, it is about bringing the voices of buyers to the table. or is it you believe they have no right to have an opinion about the violence they face?

The violence pooners encounter on "dates" is rare compared to that which SP`s face. Pooners are often the ones who cause the violence to SP`s. Which i would assume is one of the arguments for opposing the sex trade & criminalizing johns. But for examples of violence, or threats thereof, against pooners being discussed:

That sounds way off the mark. Where is this "research"? What percentage visit the DTES low track? What is the nature of this "violence"?

How many DTES SWs working regularly in the trade for a year or more experience some kind of physical abuse?

I'd be willing to bet a very large sum it is a much higher percentage than their customers.

And it is the customers themselves who are often the ones who abuse the DTES SP's.

yes, workers in the dtes regularly experience violence. when i worked outside many moons ago, i experienced violence. MAKA project talks about that alot.

john`s voice ran a small ad here and i believe they even paid to be in red if i remember properly....

its the largest study of its kind in north america and engaged about 1000 pooners. from across the industry. perb members contributed alot and were a huge part in defining the data.

so, 42% of men surveyed experienced violence while trying to purchase sex in this study of 1000 pooners a significant number of whom were members here.

sex workers in the DTES reported that they experienced violence at the hands of many people such as

I kinda like it the way it is in Vancouver.
good or bad quality , good or bad prices ,
like pizza , lots of toppings , and sizes and flavour , fast delivery.
Not sure how to improve upon that.
i,m a very experienced pooner and world wide pooner traveller and think we have it pretty good here.
Do i want Robson street to be like Amsterdam with girls licensed and protected in little glasses store fronts ....no way.
do i want it like Angeles city where big clubs own and control ...no way
even though its pretty obvious a asian gang is in control of most of the amp's anyways , but they are running a pretty good service.
I dont like politics getting involved.
keep it simple ----stupid ! is the best way.

Spoken like someone who has never looked beyond today. Things are pretty good in Canada right now, but only because of benign neglect. Right now, the way things are, SWs do not really have a recognized status that is consistently protected by law. Conditions for the hobby could change in Vancouver after the next municipal election. A Mayor with a moral majority mindset could really ruin everyone's fun. Imagine if someone in the Federal Government thinks he can get more votes if he implements the Swedish model sex work. . "Vigilance is price of freedom." applies to everyone. Wake the fuck Up!

I don't know what countries you travelled but to say it pretty good here in Canada that's a understatement. I have pooned in major cities all over the world, compared to that Vancouver is okay not good.
