Well, don't forget that you folks have about ten times the population that we do.

Further, most folks would agree that the Canadian military man/woman is, at the very least, the equal of any military man/woman anywhere. It's the gear, and the sheer numbers, that we lack.

I don't care if you vote for The Wheel of Cheese party or The Greens or The Rhinos, but vote for anybody but The Liberal party. If you invited someone into your house and they stole your toaster would you invite them back? Okay, a mistake's a mistake so back they come and this time they take your TV. How many times do you forgive them before you invite another houseguest? By voting Liberal you just bend over - it sanctions anything they want to do. Politically, I also think they are too soft on justice reform, spend wildly to buy votes with my own money, (which I personally find more offensive than their waste because they cynically believe we are so stupid), have done nothing to reform animal cruelty laws, have flawed policies on immigration/ deportation, insist on continuing to fund the Gun Registry while gun crimes are increasing, don't fund the military or RCMP properly, Paul Martin's "fleet" registered overseas to avoid Canadian tax, and remember the tainted blood fiasco?, remember Jane Stewart and the Human Resources money that went missing?, the mess our health care syttem is in with their only solution being pumping more money at it, Canada Post's Gerard Pelletier - "I'm entitled to my entitlements" phrase that captures the entire Liberal thinking. They believe they are entitled to anything they want because the are The Liberals. Kind of like The Sopranos. Toast the fuckers.

I'm voting in revenge mode

 I'm going against the grain of my politics and going to vote Liberal for no other reason other than they were willing to wait to March to call an election. The other parties can kiss my shiny metal ass for ruining my Christmas vacation for I do not want to watch political commercials, nor be disturbed during the holidays. So Fuck Harper, Leyton, and Duceppe at least Martin had the class to wait.

I'll vote Green just as I did in the last federal election. However my hope will be that we get another minority government. And continue to have nothing but minority governments as long as we have elections. Not one of the main parties is worthy of being given a majority. But at least when we have a minority government, none of the assholes can have five years of being in power and doing who knows what damage to the country.

If I thought the Conservatives' proposed reforms to prevent another Adscam would work I might vote for them, but for all of Harper's hot air about restoring integrity blah blah blah, the Conservatives will not put the necessary checks and balances into the system because it would prevent them from helping their friends too.

I read the brochure I received from my Conservative candidate in the mail and there is not one sentence about the Conservative's platform for health care which I believe is still the most important issue to Canadians. If Harper wants to demonstrate transparency he can tell us what he plans to do with health care if forming the government.

If the opposition parties really believe in accountability I hope their parties will reimburse taxpayers for the cost of the election if we end up with similar results in January to what we had now.

I was considering switching my vote to the Conservatives until Harper started his campaign by opening up the gay marriage can of worms again. Thanks for playing, Stevie, and don't forget to remove that bullet from your foot. The NDP's anti-business tax-and-spend stance sours me on them. And the Greens appear to be a one-issue party, so they are out of consideration until I get more info on their positions with other issues. So unless I have to waste my vote on a lunatic fringe candidate, what other choice is left?

And don't forget that the Grits greased the way in for more SPs from Eastern Europe! ;)

harper started off his campaign by not even being able to say "i love canada" what kind of prime minister is that? the reporter asked him if he loved canada and he couldn't even say it.

Harper views the PM position as merely a stepping-stone towards his ultimate desire.

Pet Peeve: when the media calls the Conservative Party of Canada "The Tories."

They're not the Tories. The Tories were the Progressive Conservatives led by Sir John A. McDonald through to Joe Clark. The Conservative Party of Canada, the old Alliance/Reform party, is like the old Tories, with a liberal (pardon the pun) dose of social conservatism thrown in for sickening measure. The Tories died a sudden death at the hands of Brian Mulroney.

Also:

Show me a party who has run in three consecutive elections under three different names and I'll show you a party that has no ideology.

Show me a party that is willing to amalgamate with another in attempt to secure victory and I'll show you a party with no integrity.

What amazes me is that 54% of Canadians are saying they want a change of government, but only 28% are willing to vote for Harper. Clearly Canadians are not buying what this guy is selling.

Given the sponsorship scandal, HArper should be coasting into this election at over 50% of decided voters and Martin should be scrambling to save his ass. Instead, no matter what the outcome here we're going to have a minority government and probably some leadership contests.

If its another liberal minority ... the likely scenario ... then Harper is gone. This is the Conservatives big chance and there won't be one better. If he can't take the liberals down now, then he deserves to be booted. And it looks like he is doing nothing to displace the fear in some quarters that he is in the pocket of the social conservatives. The effect of gomery has already been felt, and he's in search of an issue. Hence the same sex marriage thing, and frankly I don't think anyone is really interesed in going there.

If its a conservative minority Harper is in a really bad position. Who would he look to to govern. The NDP -- not bloody likely. The liberals -- he's just spent the last year telling everyone they are morally corrupt, not to be trusted and not deserving of office. Moreover, he's also spent the last 6 months railing against jack layton and the NDP for "dealing" with the liberals. So who does that leave ... the separatists. Well that will go over well. If Harper wins a minority there will be an election in 6 months and the only thing Harper will have done is prove that the Conservatives are not really capable of governing. He'll be looking for his old job back at the National Citizens Coalition.

The only person who'll come out of this election with a smile on his face is Gilles Duceppe.

I'd like to see a comeback of the Rhinoceros Party of Canada. They had some great ideas like reducing energy costs by lowering the boiling point of water, and paving Manitoba to make the world's biggest parking lot, and painting a line in the ocean so the fish would know what where the Canadian waters end, and annexing the United States to raise the average national temperature.

Now that's a party I would vote for!

Here's food for thought!

Is it conceivable that the Tories could have hatched an Adscam scheme had they been in power?

And if not, is it because they would have too stupid to think one up?

No need for any answers. This is just a paradoxical question.

I've voted both sides throughout the years.

I still can't figure out if Tories are Liberals in disguise, or the other way around...

Get used to a few more years of minority governments in Ottawa. That is until the Tories can find a leader who speaks French. And Harper my friends, "does not speak French". The balance of power resides in Quebec. Harper's French is atrocious as it sounds, and Quebecers can't stand him. His futile attempts to communicate with them is met with derision and ridicule. His French is really hard on the ears. His French is so bad, they would probably have more respect for him if he kept his mouth shut. He hasn't got a snowball's hope in hell of walking across the floor. When are these pinheads going to learn this simple formula? Look back in history for proofs.

Another promise they made at the time of the Ben Johnson scandal was, they would hand out free steroids to all Canadians so we could become the strongest country in the World.
