Hi guys don't know if you've heard of any rumours recently. I was visiting a sp in burnaby this week. We got to chatting about the trade and apparently a lot of her coworkers(Asian) had quite a few police visits recently. They would pretend to be clients and ask for in call address, then show up in uniform and knock on the door. She even said one of the girls were caught and sent back)presumedly because of no pr card) Anybody heard of this happening? What would it mean for the perbers?

Haven't heard anything specific, but Burnaby LE seems to go on a crusade once in a while. Other tenants may be complaining. Keep it discreet guys! :frog:

I think while it's technically okay for Canadians to partake in the business (as an SP), the laws are kind of unhappy about ladies that are here on "Vacation Work Visas", it can be viewed as trafficking or even worse...
That's what I've heard anyways.. =/

Part of the reason why I haven't went to any "micros" because I just don't know how they're being run in the background and the intricacies of it.. and don't want to unwillingly be contributing to a trafficking ring..

It's just my own worries and I have 0 proof.. (tinfoil hat mode off)

I don't know the legality of pretending to be an incall customer. Perhaps someone with knowledge can fill in on the matter.

Previous 'busts' were usually either neighbours who found out what's up or the doing of jealous 'rival' micros. In the event of an actual bust, they're not technically wrong, as it's no different than if a foreigner started working in this country without paying any taxes. However, unless the lady has overstayed her tourist visa, it's incredibly difficult (maybe not so much difficult as it is not worthwhile) for the authorities to legally deport the girl.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the occasional bust.

unfortunately ....this....but also, we are once again seeing a series of robberies of sp's in particular those of asian origin.....also as was pointed out....it's rcmp in burnaby.....so who know's...i will call and inquire tomorrow ....fish around a bit to see what they might be after...

also, entrapment is not illegal in canada and i have heard of the fake booking approach for obtaining incall addresses in the past so it could
be that also.....

Many Asian apartment girls are here on tourist visas which allow them to stay for a specific period of time and which do not allow them to work, as a work visa would.
That specific period of time for a tourist visa may be extended legitimately, from, say, six months, to a longer time, say, a year.

Recent information from apartment girls clearly supports reports of armed robberies of Asian micros and of immigration activities to remove visa-violation suspects from the Lower Mainland.
Locales for the robberies have been identified as Richmond, Vancouver and Burnaby and for immigration enforcement as particularly Burnaby and Surrey.
Conversation among these girls also includes reports of fake bookings and undercover LE. Micro SPs are feeling at peril these days.

Micro's: Keep your employees safe. No cash-only operation should be without one of these:

Bolt it to the floor or a large frame. It takes too long to defeat and no amount of threatening is going to get it open when they actually don't know the combo. I don't recall any perp ever bringing a cutting torch.

It will stop a robbery but it won't stop LE. If they have a warrant they'll get it out and wreck your house (at your expense).
So? Never said it would. It's not meant to stop LE. Warrant? Reasonable cause should suffice, my esteemed colleague. LE are mainly after other things. If they need proceeds as exhibits they will bring a torch.

You'd be better to hide it in a UPS box or in the trunk of your car. If you want to hide money, visit a local spy store..they have lots of options.
Shhh... let people read between the lines. Remember the best way to hide something is in "plain sight". Safe is for safety... not saying any more.

ok, so it seems that CBSA have been enforcing expired visa's and working without a visa....this can be confused as police as they both wear uniforms....and there has been a series of robberies...again...some people may remember when Jeffrey Qi Feng Bian was murdered defending the women working in his brothel during a robbery just like these in 2009....these robberies are always the outcome of enforcement against migrant workers...it has to stop

the officer i spoke to was very helpful and said he wanted to work on better ways to protect all sp's but in particular the migrant workers impacted by these robberies...

so, we are going to try..... to organize a more balanced approach to policing sex work across the lower mainland. we are going to try.... to set up a meeting with different policing agencies from different cities including community policing and CBSA where we will talk about the non enforcement policy in vancouver and the ways in which we can improve the communication between our community and the police as well as between police agencies.... we know that vancouver and burnaby will be there so...over time the others i hope will join in....we will focus on richmond and surrey rcmp as their districts are currently impacted....

this was a recommendation of the missing women's commission of inquiry and has some real potential to address some of these issues...it won't happen over night but we need to start some where i guess....

scratch this - i have updated below

so, if people have information related to a specific incident either with these robberies or with deportations, please message me some details;
not specifics....not names or addresses ...i want to ensure confidentiality...
more about the details of the actions of the robber(robbers) or
the stated goal of CBSA when they arrive to arrest people and deport....

how did they rob you (or your friend) why did the CBSA say they were there deporting people...

approximate when is also important...so we can identify a coordinated blanket action by police or CBSA against people

i would like to compile some info into a 3 pager for the police officer to use during his work recruiting other departments to come to the table and to secure some resources perhaps for meetings space etc.... as well as to try to demonstrate to all parties the impact of enforcement and the cost of loosing the trust of our community.

Note below - edited - no reporting for now - thankyou to those who did contact me

i just want to say how sorry i am to see this happen again, the year after the raids against asian parlours before the olympics 3 members of that community were murdered....i will do what ever i can to try to change this cycle of harm.

ok, scratch reporting to me....we have discussed it and it's too early to share reports with police...we will focus on the meeting and building a process for better communication and treatment of sex workers impacted....

if there comes a time when a report would be useful i will ask again.

Thanks, Susi.

The rise in armed robberies is not good. It will escalate if it isn't dealt with.
