I know how expensive bandwidth and hosting can be for a large community-based site. Really, I do. I am grateful that the admins and hosts here let us use this service for free-- it's wonderful!
However I think that the PM restrictions are a little harsh. Changing the message size limit from 1,000 characters to 2,500 would not change the hosting bill at all. Seriously, it's just a little text in the database... Can you give us a few more characters in the PM and a few more slots in the box, please?
