Someone please help!! I just bought my first MP3 player & I can't install it:( I try to put the cd rom in to start the installation wizard, to install the driver. (whatever that means) and I click on the folder & it keeps saying
"The directory name is invalad"
"could not find C\windows\Int\*teleumss.*"

Somewhere else it said "cannot run in DOS" What??!!

WTF?? I was sooo excited and now I just wanna cry. I've tried everything, but I'm a little computer retarded. (ok alot) If anyone can help me out I would be soo greatful.
My system is (don't laugh) a celeron 498 MHz, 256MB of ram, 6.02GB I run XP. Please I don't want to take the mp3 back. My system's conpatible right? Hhhhhhhelp!!

your system sounds a little weak by today's standards but try going to the website fort he manufacturer of the MP3 player. It might have some info about incompatibilities, known bugs or updated drivers for your player

Walmart. It's cheap, about 100 bucks. It's a Venturer with 128MB memory, supported os are win98, win.me, win2000&winXP (what I have) compatible with usb1.1 It holds about 30 or 40 songs I think. The guy there said it would work.
(I went to the website & no luck)

I think thats the problem, you bought a no-name player. I suggest returning it it and buy a better one.

take a look at this one

Okay here we go...try this.

You need to find three files on the CD and you need to put them in certain folders.

File 1
telechipsteleumss.inf
put it in c:\<your windows dir>\Inf\other

File 2
telepdr.pdr
put it in c:\<your windows dir>\System\Iosubsys

File 3
teleumss.sys
put it in c:\<your windows dir>\System32\Drivers

Then reboot your PC.

Now your windows dir could be either c:\windows or c:\winnt depending on how XP was installed (clean install or upgrade). So where I have <your windows dir> put whatever your system uses.

Hope that works.

I think he used a code the board tried to process between the two \'s after C:

With Kendo's listing, where he has "c:\\", put in either Winnt or Windows between the two \. You system will either have a C:\windows folder, or a C:\winnt folder. So, for example, if your system has a c:\windows folder, then use the following directories:

File 1
telechipsteleumss.inf
put it in c:\windows\Inf\other

File 2
telepdr.pdr
put it in c:\windows\System\Iosubsys

File 3
teleumss.sys
put it in c:\windows\System32\Drivers
Otherwise, use winnt in place of windows.

Edit:
Although while I don't totally agree with Hitrack on the value of non-name brand equipment, I checked out the Venturer home page and found something distrubing. They have a step by step list for support with mp3 problems, and their last step merely says they are sorry for your inconvience and that you have a defective product. Any company that offers that as the last support option probably isn't the best company to purchase equipment from.

Then again, I learned in class today that RedHats idea of fixing problems with their website is to ask people not to exploit the problem, rather than fixing it. That's probably worse.

I think the "telechipsteleumss.inf " probably just goes in the c:\windows\inf folder. If you can't see that folder, it's because windows, by default, has it hidden.

To make it show up, go into explorer (windows explorer, not internet explorer), tools menu option, then folder options.

Go to the view tab, and in the white dailog box there should be two options next to each other, one that says "Do not show hidden files and folders" and the other basically says show them. Make sure you've got show them, and then you'll be able to see the inf folder (in windows explorer it will be halfway transparent to show that it's a hidden file/folder).

Hmmm, to be honest, I don't know about that one. Kendo will probably have to address it since I'm just building on what he said. Best I can offer, is place it in the iosubsys folder, but again, flying blind on this. Although, for that may have been what he was talking about, because I've never heard of a losubsys folder, whereas I know the iosubsys/Iosubsys folder does exist and contains most of windows drivers.

The only issue with that, is that the iosubsys folder is from the Win9x series, and not used under XP. On top of that I haven't seen a PDR (Microsoft Port Driver) file used in a long time either. You could try placing it under c:\windows\system32\drivers, but I don't think that'd do any good. Still looking up the problem.

Edit:
Quick correction, I just re-read your post, do you have a losubsys folder?

You mentioned that it won't allow you to put the file into the iosubsys folder...what message(s) do you receive when you attempt to do that?
---

The Venturer site is a joke (=

---

Thanks privan I tried to put a generic windows directory tag but for some dumb reason the board switch it to the second \.

---

So to add onto Hitrack and Privan's thoughts...if you don't want to or you don't know enough to fiddle around with things buy brand name. (=

Hmmmmm... now you've got me. I'll see if I can find any info to help out, but otherwise I can only think of trying to e-mail or call Venturer.

Just to be sure do a search of your entire C drive for 'iosub' and see what comes up. Ensure that you have it set to show all hidden/system folders. I believe Privan gave some instructions further up for that.
