Bobo, are you really so ignorant that you can't see someone being too scared to go to the authorities, because the person threatening them has made it perfectly clear that they would kill them if they went to the cops? Why do you think there are so many battered women who stay with their abusive husbands for so long? It's because the husband promises to kill them and/or their children, if they ever leave them, or go to the police. A person who has been abused, and fears for their life, does not always think in completely logical terms to begin with. They just don't want to do anything that could risk getting them killed. There's also, the very real possibility, that the police do nothing, without hard evidence. Can you imagine if we lived in a society, where all you had to do to get back at somebody that pissed you off, is go to the police and say "so and so threatened me", and the police would immediately go and throw that person in jail? The most they'll do, is go to question the person. If there is no tape, witnesses, or some other kind of proof of the threats, and if the person doesn't admit it, all the police can do is instruct the abuser to stay away. Now you've really pissed off the person that's threatened to kill you, and they are on the streets.
The fact that you live in such a simple world, where all you have to do, under any circumstances, is go to the police, they will immediately arrest whoever is threatening you, and they will be given a life time sentence so that they can never get to you, makes me think you are slightly retarded. Is this true? It would explain how you can boil down such a complex situation into such simple, and yet completely unrealistic terms; and are mentally incapable of seeing the situation from any other perspective that is in any way, more complicated than your own.
