There's a beach in Florida that I used to stay at every spring... before my clients wife busted him.

It's not a hotel or tourist area so the beach is fairly vacant, the sand is light and powdery, the waves are playful and they leave broken shells along the water line so when the wave goes out it sounds like wind chimes... it's the only place I hit "zen" without trying. Ahhh... maybe it's time to find a dog-sitter for a few days and take off for a vacation?

Dam, reality just kicked in... I gotta find a database designer first, then I can go!

It really depends on the reason for the vacation.

For culture, history, museums etc. I love parts of Europe. Especially Rome and Paris.

My favorite city in North America is probably Washington DC. I know it's strange selection, but it has such a great combination of everything. Tonnes of museums, I love going to Georgetown University (great quantum physics department), fabulous people watching, and all the amenities of any big city (great food, shopping etc.)

As a place I would actually like to live - Sydney Australia. Much like Vancouver, it's very health conscious, outdoor and athletically oriented, great surfing, fantastic beaches, phenomenal diving if you go up the coast. The people are also really friendly, down to earth, and unlike most parts of the world, people value their word, and a handshake or a verbal agreement is all you really need in most cases.

Now that just sounds too good to be true.

Here in Canada people only honour their word if they think they will benefit from it later.
(or the consequences of not doing so are greater than the gains from lying or cheating)

I think I need to go check out this strange land down under.

1. Vancouver - It has the best food.
2. Hong Kong - The best deals on clothes and electronics
3. Las Vegas - The best place to people watch.

Vegas is always a great short vacation.
Sometimes I will go alone, sometimes with friends.
Sometimes stay in high end places, other times stay in dives.
Its just so affordable to go. Going to stay at the Riveira late April.
Airfare and 3 nights, $265 and $30 of that is picking emergency exit seating.
Only problem with Vegas you can only stay 2-4 days at a time, or it gets boring.

NYC is great too, but only certain times of year.
Cost much much more.

Anywhere tropical bores me.

My favorite place has to be Hawaii. There are 5 major islands in Hawaii you can choose to go, but I always to prefer to stay in Wailea area of Maui. Not only this place has awesome beaches, but you can see many famous people like Oprah who owns a house there. When I was there in February, I saw Hillary Duff! It is only 6 hour flight from Vancouver.

Amsterdam.
Does anyone know what airfare generally is to get there?
I have been trying to price flights for May-June, and roundtrips seem expensive.
Around $1400 from Vancouver, and its more from Seattle around $1600.

Ipanema Beach in Rio De Janiero. Hot, wild and sexy. FYI, it's not a photo of Ipanema, but of Rio.

AMEN! 17 trips and counting. I love that town, although I'm greatly saddened by the closing of Help. I didnt think the day would come :(

Quite happy to see Georgetown in DC here. Always loved that cool neighborhood. Used to frequent it during my younger years when my relatives who were working in the World Bank/IMF were still living there. They're based in OC now. Georgetown University was also well-known for their Public Administration Program and they did have former President Bill Clinton as an alumni.

Laguna Beach will always be my favorite. Always loved being near the water, brings out all your negative energy. :)

You mean the club? No way, really?

Rio is the worlds most sexy city man. Hands down, there is NO place like it. It just makes you wanna be bad
Yead Dood...it brought tears to my eyes. Apparently now its been turned into a sex museum and most of the girls have moved and set up shop at Balcone's. I guess now you have to stick to making side deals at 4x4, solarium and Monte Carlo for all nighters and 3sums. I try to avoid the Meaia Pataca girls. When were you last there?

Honestly man, I didn't frequent the place much but I did go in back a few years ago after my SO and I split. I didn't "buy" anything but the idea is interesting. For those that haven't gone it's essentially a night club filled with SP's, working girls, etc, and all you need is money. The only risk is some are male & some will drug your drinks to steal your wallet.

If you can, venture up to Salvador in the NE of Brazil. Less violent than Rio & more friendly & the skin on the women is darker. Prices are much cheaper too. Belem was a good time too but it's the hottest place I've ever been in my life..just a sea of sweat. I met a chick there named Belle who I seriously wanted to import to Canada.
In over 200-300 visits to Help I've never seen a tranny. NOT ONCE. They're bad for business so the bouncers never let them in. In addition Ive never heard one story of one guy getting drugged at Help and I've met thousands of guys in Rio many of whom have become very close friends and no one has heard these stories either. I'd say out of the 400-600 girls Ive picked up for LT from that place there might've been maybe one or two bad experiences. I think one the chica got too drunk and ended up puking and the other the chick refused to take it in the ass (although it was negotiated in the deal) and wated all her money when i kicked her out on the spot.

Fortaleza is a lot of fun too, you should try it or take 2 or 3 of your favourite girls and spend a couple of days at Iguazu falls.

My favorite places to visit are:

1 Venice (hands down) –best outdoor atmosphere
2 Florence – best culture, walkable and contains several of the best art and sculpture Galleries in the world and a great cathedral. If you like art or history you will fall in love.
3 Paris –culture and food and that je ne sais quoi
4 Sydney – beauty and warmth, light and lively not heavy in culture like Europe, but may be too much like Vancouver to give the contrast you want on a vacation – but a Vancouverite could live there comfortably better than any city in the world.
5 Thailand – several cities or places to choose from; some of which you can even take your wife/girl friend to – (elephant rides through the jungle anyone), other places that are a mans paradise – most friendly woman in the world – single men will not want to ever come home.
6 Hawaii –there is this limited access beach in Maui which is by virtue of access is totally uncrowned yet is a mile long and 500 feet deep with the worlds best sand mostly of crushed sea shells, and at the edges has a great reef with the most gorgeous small fish better than an aquarium.
7 Las Vegas –best nightlife and make pretend in the world but last on the list for extended vacations – if you can afford it though, take a side trip to the Grand Canyon by helicopter –magnificent views.
8 Salzburg Austria –where the “Sound of Music” was set –enchanted, visit it and you will be mesmerized.
9 India – its so different than what we expect, or any of the aforementioned places - ancient traditions, beauty, respect, a land of contrasts, where extreme poverty and wealth, old world and new world, sit side by side, provided the south is much poorer so more interesting to visit– everyone should visit once. My favorite is Kerala province in the south - spending a night on a covered riverboat with your own private cook, with just nature and the sound of birds is an experience unparalleled. Second is Goa with mixed Portuguese, Indian traditions, warmth and beaches and great cathedrals.
10 Jerusalem –ancient for sure controversial no doubt – 3 of the worlds largest religions still claim it and fight over it, the walled city is it is divided into 4 quarters each with distinct culture and traditions. Perhaps it should be number 1 on a place to visit but for many not a vacation to visit it but more of a passion, so maybe should be excluded. But you will be moved one way or another. –cheating as really a different site, but if you visit Jerusalem, make a side trip to Petra in Jordon (not far away the trick is crossing the border –cross at Eilat, in southern Israel and stay a couple of days here too, best diving site in the world) – remember Indians Jones – manmade carved of solid rock - unbelievable and unforgettable a bucket list experience
11 Rome – it could easily be number 3, and the Vatican is magnificent. I only left it out of top 10 as it too similar in culture and experience to my top 2.
