How the hell did they do it?
they pick up 2 captains in 2 weeks , along with Malkin and Sid and a few others this team is a sure thing to get the cup.
And Gillis just keeps trying to pick up bargain basement plumbers.
Now he got some useless toughness and a bunch of 4th line plumbers that cant score.

yeah,
Good for Iggy,
He will never see a cup in Calgary, but it seems like we got well not a hell of a lot in return.
Not sure the cup is a sure thing though. It might take them the rest of the season just to settle in.

At least its not Boston. :)

Anyways, it was nice of Calgary to trade him to one of the top teams in the NHL to give him a chance of winning the Stanley Cup which will never happen there in the near term. Plus, think of the bright side, at least, the Canucks are NOT in a rebuilding mode. ;)

Calgary sure didn't get much for Iggie in this trade. None of those players were in the top round. I see it more of a salary dump than an even trade.

When did Pittsburgh lose it's h? :p

Yups! Looks like GM Feaster got feasted on.
Your not kidding. Sure Jerome is in the sunset of his career and a UFA but he's also your captain and the heart and soul of your team for2 kids currently playing in the NCAA and Pittsburgh's 1st rounder in a year when Pittsburgh will be picking 29th or 30th and the draft is very thin.
I'm a Jets fan so I really couldn't care but after the Ryan O'Reilly fiasco and now this, if I was Calgary fan I would be very concerned about who's running my team.

Gillis has blown it with the Luongo thing. He has been way too greedy.

A very good firend of mine is quite well connected in NHL circles. He in fact used to be scout with Tampa when they won the cup and recently Nashville. He's out of it now but still keeps in touch with a lot of his old contacts.

Anyway he told me when I was talking to him a couple of weeks ago that the only team with any real interest was Toronto. Especially at the price Gillis was asking. No one else wants that albatross of a contract hanging around their neck in the current NHL. With Gillis being so stubborn and insisting on a huge payback which Toronto was not going to give him he lost his window of opportuntiy. Earlier in the year Toronto was still in a position where they had serious questions about their goaltending. Now with Reimer picking up his game and Scrivens playing well and them in a playoff position, they are not really desperate enough to make that deal.

I predict Luongo in in Vancouver for the year and Gillis will eventually trade him this summer for way less than he could have gotten earlier.

The Fact is Luongo has $40 M and nine years remaining on his contract. Gillis was not being greedy, it is tough to move any goalie at this time with a shortened season. Especially with that sort of financial commitment too. I am betting most teams were looking for the Canucks to absorb half of Luongo's contract too.

Besides, who will be Scheid's backup? Not many of those spare parts kicking around at this time of year either.

I also say Lu stays til after July 1 and then will be traded eventually with not much in return. Sad but it business.

You guys are all missing the point, Inginla has a no-movement clause and thus, controlled his own destiny. He picked Pittsburgh, is the way I see it as opposed to the Flames choosing the Penguin's offer over Boston's.

I get why a player would want a ntc in a long deal, if they want to raise families or own homes.
But I think they have to do something like in the last year of a deal, the ntc is void a week before the trade deadline.

If he is in the last year of his deal, and not going to be resigned, he will have to move in summer anyways, if he doesn't retire.
Otherwise all we are going to see, is send me to the best team. The best team knows they just need to pay peanuts.

Not necessarily, if your team is in the playoffs or at least in the hunt for a playoff spot at the trade deadline then you are not going to trade your good players who are set to become UFAs. You need them for the playoffs...

All I can say is Iginla has been the face of the francise for a very long time.He did a lot for the team as well as the community and is regarded as one of the most decent players in the NHL.That being said if management asked him to waive the NTC or he asked to be traded he did specify the teams he would accept. He did this for one thing and one thing only......he wants to hoist Lord Stanley's silverware over his head.He wants to win a Stanley Cup and he has every right to want that.Hell if he stayed in Calgary it just would not happen. The drive in 2004 was spectacular and the cup was outright robbed by that waived goal in game 6.

Lets look at 2 other Hall of Fame NHL players that faced a similar situation.

Ray Bourque is easily one the best defensemen to ever play in the NHL.He had it all,he could score/pass and play both offensively and defensively and he brought his best every game.He won a shitload of titles in his career but as it was drawing to a close he came to the stark realization that he was not going to win a Stanley Cup with Boston so he asked to be traded and he specified Detroit ( I am pretty sure) and he got the Cup.
The ultimate goal for every NHL player. He wanted it and he deserved it.

The other player I speak of is Dale Hawerchuck. He was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets and he played every single
NHL game of his career with the Jets.He never switched teams and retired as a Jet.He is in the Hall of Fame and has some pretty impressive stats considering that the rules of the NHL in his playing days VS the rules of the NHL now are a lot different...pretty much zero tolerance for clutch & grab now as opposed to then.Did he
want a Cup bad enough to demand to be traded to a contender?Would he have been able to make such a demand? These are questions only he can answer. All I can say is he is one of the greatest players in NHL history who never won a Stanley Cup.

Getting back to Jerome Iginla....he chose the option/path that Ray Bourque chose and I dont blame him at all.He has 2 Olympic gold medals to his credit and a lot of other accolades as well. After 16 years of playing for the flames with all his gusto he has made a grab for the brass ring. After many years of being the face of the franchise and with all that comes with it...he made a grab for the brass ring....and I dont blame him at all.
He has done a lot for the team and even more for the franchise in general and his "Gordie Howe hat-tricks"
(a goal/assist/fight) are countless. He wants to hold the Stanley Cup and do lap around the ice with it over his head before he ends his NHL career. It is not a matter of IF he gets into the Hall of Fame but When and he decided he did not want to be like Dale Hawerchuck..... one of the most highly skilled players in the NHL who
never won the CUP.

Kudos to Iginla...he is a class act and I hope he achieves his dream.

Storm...I think your confusing Ray Bourque (Colorado) with Chris Chelios (Detroit). Perhaps because the former wanted to be an American (refused to play for Team Canada because he wanted to save himself for a Stanley Cup) and the latter was American.

Yes Iginla is a class act.

He was traded to Buffalo for Phil Housley, played 5 years there, most of a year in St Louis then traded to Philly.

Maybe storm rider lives in an alternate universe???

I dunno - I was a huge Boston fan back in the Neely/Bourque days, but I lost a lot of respect for Ray when he whined to be traded. I get that you want to win the prize, but there were a lot of Hall Of Fame players who DIDN'T win the big one...

Of course if a team is in the playoffs they will keep there UFAs.

I just think in the future they might start doing something, like a 5 year contract with ntc only first 3-4 years or something like that.
Or if a player waives his NTC, then its waived. Not just to the players 1 or 2 teams he wants to play on.

So far the story of the 2013 trade deadline, is 2 high end players going to the hottest team, for peanuts.
This trend leads to less parody in the league.

Let me tell you as a Flames fan i'm very much concerned about who's running my team, and w/ Feasters rep for making really bad draft picks i'm at a loss for words if he's not fired before the draft..

I guarantee feaster will fuck this draft too!
