I haven't been taking pics for a long time but the flash is a very complicated thing to get right. There is no way I can explain it you need to hit some web sites.
I have seen some pics on bright sunny days....portraits, that a "fill flash" made a huge difference.
In this pic the flash was bounced off the ceiling to create a "fill" to the existing main light, the lamp.
In this pic just the flash aimed directly at the people. The pic has lost it's atmosphere and is rather hard and flat.

And the top one has a color balance problem as well.

Herb's right tricky to do. Maybe if you shoot raw you have mor controll over the WB, but when you come home with 2000 vacation images I don't wanna be fukkin arounf post processing all that shit.
The top pic of the 2 girls is a disaster, not usable. The bottom pics lighting makes it look like lightening bolt man is standing 10 feet behind her since her face caught all the flash and he is in shadow.
This is where you need a GF. When she's not giving you a BJ, practise taking pics of her in all types of light.

Well, I am sure Flash would be very flattered, but he is not, in fact, standing 10 feet behind her, just less than a foot. And, yes, she was able to take all of the Flash - behind her.hitrack said:
