Phone Apps

Hi folks,

I have a weird inquiry and this is not for pooning at all, but for someone starting a side gig. I'm in the process of getting started, but want to check here and get some suggestions on legit phone apps. I want to be able to separate the calls I make and receive for business from my personal ones. Just wanted to see what some of the services providers use here (cause who better to ask). I'm willing to pay for a separate number and everything too. Just want ideas on what apps are legit and can work, without constant hiccups. Cheers!

A 2nd phone is the way to go. Ask a friend or get one on Craigslist. Get a public mobile (or your favourite budget provider) sim and sign up. For less than $50 you have a dedicated line.

I don't want to do business on a shitty burner phone. I had a burner phone and I it was annoying to do anything. Plus I don't want to carry an extra device on me. One thing if I have an extra phone for once a month pooning (for example). It's a whole other thing for something daily.

My second phone was purchased used, and unlocked.
Cost me $100 and has been a good phone the last 4 years. One is my personal phone, the other my business phone.
The line costs me $27.20 a month.

What we are trying to tell you is any app is going to be way worse than trying to use a 2nd phone. The apps are buggy, ad filled and untrustworthy. I wouldn’t want to rely on an app for business. I know a lot of SPs use them. Anyway, you asked for advice, we gave it, you do you.

Our phone records at work can be pulled up if we have a situation. Transport Canada and my work only know the one #. They don't ask to see the phone

I just use my same actual phone number for everything lol 😅 I dont waste time with text apps.

Sometimes I mess up and answer the company phone 'hello' or my personal phone with the company name, which can cause confusion. If I only had 1 phone it would not be good because I would probably answer wrong 1 in 5 times, instead of 1 in 50. 😂😂😂

I use TextNow. Free version doesn't let you pick your local number so I use a US one. Only once somebody said something about me using an app, most people don't notice or don't care.

Warning for people looking at dual sim phones, make sure you have texting apps that can separate messages of one number from another. It gets confusing when everything gets thrown into the same inbox. It's fine when you have just one identity. But when you're juggling between two, you want to make sure you explicitly know what voice you're responding with.

One phone works for a lot of people in business. Put all your contacts in, and when they call you should be able to tell personal from business. Don't answer blocked or no caller id calls. They can leave a message.
If you start with just your personal contacts, then another calls by default would be business.
Even if you just answer " Hello James speaking" that is fine for business too.

On the other side, if you can't invest a few hundred $ for the proper equipment for your business, maybe you should reconsider the business. If you are getting calls for business, you must be investing $ in advertising to get your number out there. If you believe in the business, then make the proper initial investments.

Or you can get app free numbers through your play store. They won't admit it but, I'm quite sure many follow this route. Phone numbers in their ads tell the story.

My perspective and opinion, everyone has had issues with app based numbers. The common resolution is to get a stable line on a second phone. Totally understand you may not want to hold 2 phones, but a lot of SP's i've communicated with and seen know that app based phones arent truly reliable and cost them biz when its down so they just get a second line on a prepaid voucher like on koodo or fido etc...

Do let us know what you decided to do in the end.... i think the best suggestion is using a duo sim phone (E sim or duo tray) if u hate carrying phones around... personally i rather carry extra's in case i misplce one, i can use it to track the other

Get a burner phone from 7-11, Craigslist or somewhere, you will Thank us later, I got mine from a yard sale, not the best phone in the world but does the job done for texting.

I get that you don't want to carry 2 phones but my burner phone is small and don't even notice it, for me it's not a big deal.

Usually I just bring the donation and bare ID which I leave hidden in my car and park in an area where there is lots of people around, ie: a safe area, never had a problem.

By the way 7-11 text or mins don't expire for a very long time, check it out.

OP wants to start a business and is considering low cost options. He's not using it for pooning ffs.

I've been using "Burner" app from the Playstore for many years now and have kept a 2nd local # for just 5 bucks a month. I use it for pooning and Craigslist transactions and it's been pretty reliable. They do have server maintenance and the rare outages from time to time but for what I'm using it for, it's been fine. I've even made long distance voice calls with it and the sound and connection quality is adequate. Person on the other end didn't even know I was on a VOIP app line.

So back to the OP's title for this thread, Phone Apps as opposed to what it has become Burner Phones.
Are there any that are worthwhile for texting predominately.
Low cost, no cost, etc?
