I have heard some rumor that Coyotes might be moving to either Seattle or Quebec city. It will be nice to have a NHL hockey team in Seattle to have a rivalry against. Just 2 hour away, Canada vs USA!

Ridiculous idea to move the NHL to Seattle. I would say 95 to 99 percent of the people dont know who Patrick Kane, Malkin, Rick Nash or Ryan Kesler are. I've been here over 20 years and Seattle will flop as a market.

well they have two whl teams, so hockey is not foreign to the city. i do believe they get cbc there so they are aware of the canucks. seattle is like the 14th biggest tv market in the u.s. and with no nba team to compete with. big factor would be corporate dollars. many more big corporate offices to buy up all those luxury suites. only problem is the arena.

Yes, they have to have a new arena for it to work, but if they get it they'll also get their nba team back.
An nhl team would survive in Seattle in my opinion. It's big enough and has some hockey history.
I could care less if it thrives.
At least all the canucks games would sell out. lol
I hope they get a team. It would be great for the Canucks to have a geographic rival.

What I heard was that a consulting firm has been hired to look into the potential site for a new arena. Until the new place is built, the new team can play at the Key arena. I wonder what will be the name for the new team.

they could follow the lead of the Ottawa Senators and go with the Seattle Metropolitans who won the Stanley cup in 1917 and played in the finals in 19 which didn't finish due to the Spanish Flu and lost in 20 to the Ottawa Senators

Years ago, I was one of a handful willing to invest and help fund an NHL Team to Portland.
Back then and many thousands of dollars later, market research proved that Portland is a bigger "hockey town" than Seattle.
Unfortunately, I was the only one that wanted a new multi purpose stadium to house the expansion team.
At the time, the progress was one step forward and six steps backwards. I graciously backed out with a hint of future play.

It's all good.

Kansas City

Seattle is a great city for professional sports. Population, disposable income, etc. A good example is the Seattle Sounders which is the most successful team in the MLS attendance-wise averaging almost 40,000 in every game. However, for me, the next professional team to come to Seattle would be an NBA team. The people of Seattle are still heartbroken from losing their NBA team.

I'd go for Kansas City for the new NHL location. Every city that wants an NHL team needs a new home to play in while KC already has one. KC has changed a lot in the last 30 years, its now ready to support a new NHL team.

I will agree, Seattle and KC would be very viable markets, but I think it's time to bring back the Nordiques...

was listening to espn 710 for a bit today. they were talking about the sacramento kings moving there next year conditionally on a new arena being approved. said nothing of an nhl team until the professor john clayton came on for his segment and when asked said he'd be more excited for a hockey team to come then basketball.
