I take a lot of taxis, almost daily. Enough that I've gotten to know some of the drivers and can ask personal questions from the information they've shared with me like their kids graduating, renting their townhouse in Surrey, and their travels. Enough that I know which drivers I want to avoid-- the one whose car constantly smells like McDonalds or the one who blasts CBC radio (which I'm a fan of) and wants to chat about Donald Trump (argh). Enough that my cell phone automatically connects to their wifi about 20% of the time because I've already logged in in that particular cab before.

About 2 weeks ago I wasn't able to view perb in Black Top because a message came up saying "the site you are trying to connect to is prohibited because it contains pornographic material LOL I didn't even know you couldn't view porn in taxis but I thought this was hilarious. I guess I'm not the only perbite who frequents cabs. They have caught on to us... lol

Just thought I would share a little laugh.

The Whole Foods ban shows a bright red screen on your phone too! Bizarre, Haha

I was at a hotel in Osoyoos that had similar bans on nudity and a weapon related site I was viewing. No fun city.

Weird, never thought of this site as porn. I mean it is very much a site for adults. Oh well....

And BC Ferries
BC Ferries blocks the celebrity gossip site dlisted too for alleged adult content and yet there's no nudity or even written erotica there. Just cattiness. :)

(To be fair on the perb blocking... the banner ads and some threads, sigs and avatars contain nudity; and the reviews can often qualify as erotica of the Penthouse Forums style. So I get it.)

companies and government don't want children accessing inappropriate content on their wifi, would not go over good with the mothers

I recently returned from a trip to the Okanagan and one morning I stopped into a Tim Horton's for a coffee and decided to see what's
new topics in the Lounge? Ha-ha, no access to this porn site? Wtf?
I'm not sure about Starbucks? So I was kinda surprised as well ? I guess what we consider everyday reading materials isn't such to many others ? Okay, so we're different.

The unfortunate thing is a lot of these filters for search engines They do not have the ability to tell the between what various things are. They just look for key words and phrases. I remember trying one out that filtered out violent content and it would not let me see the the web page for Spybot search and destroy a free anti spyware program . because it had" search and destroy" in the title. When I was using a chat program one time it would not let me talk about the country singer jewel . . Every time i tried to write her name it said you can not say " Jew" here .

same thing with some of the grammar checking programs Had one that was supposed to be non sexist . That I was testing in a creative writing class and I talked about the musical group the" beach boys" which of course became the" beach persons" .

Now I'm wondering what triggered the Black Top perb ban...did they catch employees on perb...or customers?:lol:

I imagine some cabbies may sit in their cars between fares reading perb to pass the time..

Ok perbities...who's the guilty one? Be honest...lol
Have you tried DropBox?

Similar things happen if you try to upload pics with nudity. I had a pic on my phone with a few topless women in the pic and it was the only pic I could not upload. They must have censoring software that catches this stuff.

Funny, could access Perb from BC Ferries the other week, then this week it has been blocked. :'(

Also, I suppose it depends on the firewall system each user and/or company has installed, some antivirus systems simply detect certain websites in a signature-based, behavioural-based or even an updated data mining based detection technique to continually block potential "trigger" websites.

probably a service provider who provides the filtered access at head office for these companies

typically internet access will originate from a high bandwidth line at a central source where they will have something like net nanny monitor, from the central source it will go through a vpn (virtual private network) out to their locations and out through their wifi broadcast network or grid

this way they only pay for one monitored service or license, would make sense to outsource the responsibility for updating banned sites to a third party
