Hi
I'm trying to find the risk (mainly HIV) with penis (bare) rubbing on and inbetween vagina lips. Also what about partial insertion into the vaginal (bare)?......not fully deep pentration (i.e. more teasing type penetration).

The little info I read on this states that the high risk comes from deep (bare) penetration due to the body fluids found 'deeper' in the body (vagina)......any truth?

thanks
P

Hi Pete909

I can certainly give you some information based on what you have written.

It can be difficult to work out a person’s individual risk for STI as there are many different factors that come into play that probably affect your overall risk that are hard to measure.

For example the difference between having sex that last 30 sec’s or that last 10 mins, having sex with someone who has a very small herpes outbreak compared to a large outbreak etc…

When research studies are done they usually examine the broad risk based on your chances of coming in contact with any viruses or bacteria while having sex.

I have not heard of there being a difference with deep penetration as compared to partial penetration.

To answer your question about risk I would say that you had unprotected vaginal sex because you had genital to genital contact without a barrier and came in contact with vaginal fluid. We would say this would be high risk for HIV transmission as well as other STI.

I don’t know your full sexual history to comment further about your individual risk. For example was this a one off or happens regularly. You can always send me a pm if you have some additional questions or concerns.

That is the answer for the above question. For other people who may be reading, I just wanted to point out that we have a few links that you find helpful if you have had a similar situation.

Here is a link to our risk chart that gives information based on what type of sex you had.

Here is a link on what STI tests we usually recommend and how long you need to wait before getting tested.
