I have a friend who is the laziest person in the entire world by far. I've known this guy since high school and some things just don't change. He hasn't gone back to school and he just turned 24. He's always late when me and my other friends are meeting up, and he's not late 30 minitues, he's late like 2 to 3 hours. This lazy ass sleeps till 6:00 pm! He got fired from work last week for being late. So what does he do, you think he would get up @ 7am and start looking for a job BUT he goes out with his other friends till 2:30am and sleeps till 6pm or 7pm the next day. My friend tried to hook him up with a job but he got all pissed off when he called @ 3:00pm and again @ 4:30pm today, his excuse was he wanted to relax and he wished everbody would stop bugging him. This guy needs a good kick in the ass because he is going nowhere and I'm tired of helping this guy and all he does is take his frustrations out on his friends. Worst of all he still lives @ home with his parents. I don't know anyone who sleeps till 6:00pm.

People are motivated by different things scott231. If it really bothers you that he parties all nite and sleeps all day then don't hang with him. Eventually he will wake up one day, realize he pissed his life away and has no one to party with as no one wants to be around him.
If you do still want to hang with him then make sure he pays his way. Don't buy him drinks, lend him money etc and he will eventually realize that hey... he has to work for a living. Hopefully he is not a spoiled brat with a trust fund or rich parents that cater to his needs (wants).

What I would say, is that you, as a friend, should speak your mind to him, bring several other friends with you (so you have support and witnesses to what is said). You can tell him how pathetic his life appears to you, BE BLUNT, because maybe, that's all this guy understands. Explain how DEPRESSING it is to have him around when he is in this vegetative state, and if HE values your friendship, he will DO something. IF he does nothing, well, that expresses to you how much he values YOUR friendship. Maybe it would be time to consider letting him struggle and muddle along on his own for a while (I'm not suggesting you dump his friendship permanently, but maybe temporarily - as it seems to be a thorn in YOUR side.....

Sounds to me like he's a momma's boy, not to much ambition, if he was my friend i would give him a swift kick in the ass. Has to do some growing up, i think i would distance myself from him for awhile, maybe that will get him thinkin and pull his shit together.
everyone chooses their own path in life, regardless if its good or bad. Nothing you or your other friends tell "Sleepy" or do will change that. Sleepy has to recognize it himself that a change is in order. Until that time, and since you've already done more than enough, I'd say leave it at that, and consider youself minus one friend...

Scott, I had a friend like that back in Univeristy. I seem to recall that 8 years or so back the group, Presidents of The USA wrote a song about a friend, called Boll Weevil. That song totally reminded me of the same guy!
