NICKELBACK sucks. Nothing original, it all sounds like rehashed early 90's garage band era "Nirvana" stuff. All their songs sound the same. The lead singer is trying hard to sound like a "tortured artist" when he sings, but it's so fake.

Why do they get so much airtime? What a joke of a band.

I hate Nickleback, they single handedly, made me stop listening to the radio.

But I love The Hip. Sure they're not the same band they once were, but there still the best band this country has produced.

In small quantities, I enjoy:

Nickleback (older stuff only)
Trag. Hip (again, Henhouse and Older)
BTO
The Guess Who
Trooper
Bryan Adams
Rascals (actually a good live band)
Templar (I wish they hadn't broken up0
The Watchmen (actually, I could listen to these guys ALOT more...)
Big Sea
Big Sugar
CCR

Ones I CAN'T STAND:
Celine Dion
Avril
Shania (for the most part)
Billy (no) Talent

The rest...I really have trouble listening to.

Actually, there's some great local talent to be heard... there was a band I saw recently, who's name escapes me right now... I will post it once I remember... and they were fantastic! Totally had the crowd going too.

Rock and other stuff aside, there's alot of great classical, jazz and "other" artists that kick around canada...people who don't get much (if any) play time.

You have CCR on your list, were you referring to Credence Clearwater Revival?
If so they're a Californian band, if you were referring to another band, sorry my bad.
The Guess Who rocks btw.
Curious, what does everyone think of the government pushing CANCON on the radio stations?

I love Nelly! One of my favorite SPs in Edmonton even bears a resemblance to her.

As for the CANCON rules, it's hit and miss. There are truly worthy Canuck bands that deserve a lot more airplay than they get (Metric, Arcade Fire and countless others) but the Toronto eggheads who run the Canadian music scene has foisted some horrible shit on our ears for too long, with Billy Talent(less) being the latest example.

I used to like early T-Hip but they've turned into the musical equivalent of Tim Horton's - everyone seems to have this weird patriotic obligation to dig them even if they have sucked for many years now. However, 20 years of Hip overplay on the radio is a little bit better than damn near 40 years of April Wine overplay on the radio...but only just a tiny bit.

Wow, this somehow reminds me of seeing Carol Pope back in 1982. I was in Saskatoon with my "call-girl" friend, we were on acid... it all makes sense now... why the water bed was leaking.

all taste aside....

Please remember that more than ever, radio is about advertising revenues as opposed to music. If commercial radio were about music, we wouldn't have so many "classic rock" stations all over this nation. (There are many I assure you.) That's why Napster, satallite radio, and the indy scene are bigger than ever. To give an answer so as not to hi jack this thread.
Trooper - if I never hear them on the radio again, it won't be too soon! Someone should tell them that they have been here for a long time!

Find some great indy bands boys and girls. Whether you're from the prairies, either coast, or the middle of this country, there is a lot of great indy music you can see and buy where the $ actually goes to the artist.

I dont like the barenaked ladies
They're such idiots. They took Bruce Cockburn's "If I had a Rocket Launcher", a protest song full of anger at American-backed repressive regimes in 3rd world countries, and they turned it into a Barenaked Ladies tune - ie: milk toast, conservative, and silly only for those who are too scared to take risks in life.

That's why they can commit to song the (unoriginal) line, "If I had a million dollars, I'd buy you a case of Kraft dinner". Give me a break.
