If you were going your team around someone, would you take Ovechkin or Bure in his prime?

If you take a look at where Washington was when Glen Hanlon coached them and now, they are only 2 points out of the last playoff spot. Without Ovechkin, that wouldn't happen.

Bure, well we all know about what he's done...

Both are great players...but I think Ovechkin is a more round player than Pavel...But I like Pavel's burst of speed...he's got great acceleration...

alex all the way. he plays the total game of hockey, he hits, skates and scores. Bure could score but he was very fragile.

^^what he said.

Ovechkin is bigger and more versatile. He's got some great moves but can also play a power game. Plus he's a right-handed shot and wears a tinted visor- definite rarities in the NHL.

Bure for flash though. No one will ever come close.

That makes him tough? He blindsided an elbow to a player away from the play... that was a dirty hit - period.

Id take Ovechkin because he's more of a complete package. But Bure is a better goal scorer and he scored 60 during the defensive era. Bure playing in todays game would probably get 70.

LAG, Bure got his 50, 60 goal season during the scoring era. The NHL today is in lock down mode.

Have you guys ever seen Bure without a shirt and in shorts? That guy was was stronger than the bowflex man.

Gretzky was fragile too... So ya...

I grew up back east, didn't care about Bure so I can't compare unlike you long term Canuckleheads... Guy LaFluer was considered fragile too... But, if I had a choice on who I wanted coming down the right wing and take a shot from the point, Guy hands down...

Maybe what I should have started is whether teams today would building around Crosby or Ovechkin. At the start it was always sid the kid but this Ovechkin is playing amazing.

Ovechkin has the power forward attributes and can deliver big hits too. As for flash...Bure was the most exciting player ever to play the game...he just brought everybody up their seats everytime he stick-handled the puck and just made a lot of opposing defencemen look silly

most exciting player ever to play the game? He was one of them, however there were many that brought people out of their seats. ever hear of Paul Coffey, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr.... to name just a few. They made defenders look like pylons and these are only a few of them. Bure's not even mentioned in the same breath as these few. Bure was possibly the best Vancouver has had, however not in the League.

Bobby Orr was THE GREATEST player and this is coming from a die hard habs fan. The only defenceman to win the scoring title and he did it twice. But back to the original question, I would take Ovechkin over Bure in a heartbeat because he excels against pretty much anyone he's matched up with and is also more defensively responsible and physical. I think we all have this high view of Bure because he was the Canucks first bonafide superstar but Ovechkin is better but Bure did have a flair and was a fantastic player in his own right. I think Ovechkin is better to watch because he shows more passion on the ice and I think he truly loves scoring goals.

I am Canadian.
the only thing

that Bobby Orr didn't face in his day was much better goaltending in today's NHL... his free wheeling style was made for today's rules. Best player ever - bar none! Oh yeah.. Ovechkin over Bure.. by far! Bure was pure offense - great offense but not at all a complete player. I'd build around Phaneuf over Pavel.

Love what Bure did for Vancouver but Ovechkin would be my pick as not only do you need speed in today's NHL, you need size, strength and a well rounded overall game. I've never seen Bure backcheck like Ovechkin does (especially when playing against Malkin :D) and Bure is easier to knock off the puck than Ovechkin due to his smaller size.

As for a game breaker, it really would be a tie. Both of them going in 1 on 3 would figure out a way to score.
